Bringing 9 year old daughter for her first game at TBH and wanting suggestion on pregame tailgate experience.

Submitted by NashvilleBLUE on

Last year I took my 12-year-old daughter to her first game and now I will be taking my nine-year-old to her first game against SMU.

I live out of state so I'm not plugged into any specific pregame ritual. Last year I just took my daughter and walked around Ann Arbor and we walked through the golf course tailgate and then followed the band out.

I was hoping somebody could have a good suggestion of a place that we could actually spend some time at before the game this time. We will still walk with the band beforehand, but I'd like to have her experience one specific area or group of people if possible prior to that.

 Thanks in advance.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

We'll definitely do the drum show again, we'll check out Pioneer for the "fan zone" experience, we'll check out the museum and try to get pizza before the game.

As far as "if she's not too much into the game you could do X", she is as excited as I would have been at her age for the game. She goes to school in Michigan gear all the time and proudly takes the attacks from the little southern boys saying "michigan sucks!". She watches the games with me (along with my 12 year old) every Saturday and celebrates as much as I do, even if she doesn't understand 60% of what we're celebrating about!

I have a now 19 yr old son and an 11 yr old who’ve atteneded more games than I can count. To this day their favorite thing is to get into the stadium as soon as they let you, go all the way down and watch the team warm up. It cuts into dads tailgate time but even 12 years after his first Michigan game, my 19 yr old still considers this a tradition.

Agreed with the posts about watching the drum-line at Revelli Hall and walking with the band to the stadium. We also like to walk through that parking lot and see the Veteran of the Game. There's a special tailgate tent for the Veteran.
