Brian Cole to Mississippi State
Didn't see this posted, but I noticed that former Wolverine Brian Cole is part of Mississippi State's recruiting class. He spent last year at a "last chance" community college in Mississippi, he landed with the other MSU. And he's playing safety full-time now.

Good luck, young man.

Looking forward to the second season of Last Chance U, which will probably feature Cole in some way.

Good for him. Safety seemed to make a lot more sense than WR given his skills and experience.

Always glad to see people get another chance, good luck Brian

I lived in Saginaw and watched Brian Cole play for Heritage High School.
When i heard he was the top ranked player in Michigan and a top 5 Athlete in the country I was blown away. He couldnt even lead his high school team to a good season while playing nearly all phases of the game (ST,Off,Def). He really never put up great stats even though heritage didnt play against very good competition.
This was one of the times that I felt like I knew more than scouts because I had a better view of Cole than they did and it ended up being true
February 2nd, 2017 at 3:57 PM ^
How did it end up being true? Nothing in your statement indicated that you believed he would have off the field issues.
February 2nd, 2017 at 4:27 PM ^
He was supposed to be a stud. #1 player in michigan #1 recruit in Michigans class. He never lived up to the hype not because of off the field issues but because............he just wasnt that good

Here's his medicore ass stats at some Community College in Mississippi
http://www.emccathletics.com/sports/fball/2016-17/bios/cole_ii_brian_k8…
As I said he was overrated from the start. A player who is the top player in a state and the #1 ranked recruit in a Michigan class who cant even put up solid numbers at a Community College is a BUST. Teams like MSU are still banking off that "potential" that will never come to fruition
February 2nd, 2017 at 5:24 PM ^
In all fairness, those stats dont tell much. I've never watched him play and Im looking forward to watching him on Last Chance U, but there's a lot of important attributes with defensive players that stats don't show. 5 tackles a game and 3 forced fumbles don't yell bust. The stats dont show how he did in coverage. Jabrill for example was a phenomenal defender, but the stats didn't fully capture his impact.

football requires 22 guys plus specialists, backups, etc. It's the sport that is by far the most difficult for a single player to impact given all the interpositional dependencies.
If his team wasn't very good, that's not necessarily a knock on his ability. He's not necessarily a football failure because of off-field issues so I'm not sure what you think "ended up being true", unless you predicted he'd get in trouble for substance abuse.

In Saginaw single players or duos etc carry teams. Brian Cole being the #1 player in the state facing horrid teams like Saginaw High, Arthur Hill, Flint teams etc should've been amassing atleast 150 yards a game with a sluegh of interceptions but he didnt. He instead played very medociore and was judged solely off of "potential" which I never saw and many other people never saw
Please dont try to tell me about Saginaw Highschool football. Single players, especially those at skill positions, carry teams every year here. The competition levels since Saginaw High and Arthur Hill started sucking has gone down temendously.

he was a done deal to go to Ole Miss... Good pick up by Miss St.

Probably all that negative recruiting Hugh Freeze was whining about (aka all the bag men went into hidding).
February 2nd, 2017 at 4:13 PM ^
Well according to Hugh Freeze, they can't have good players because they're being punished. So off to MSU (NTMSU)
