It's exciting to once again see Michigan fielding a pretty accomplished line.

Who was the last offensive lineman from Michigan to get all this preseason recognition?

Lewan most likely.

Has to be Taylor Luwan in 2012.
But I think this is the best O-Line we have had since 2000, when we had Steve Hutchinson and Jeff Backus up front.

In terms of pre-season lists/accolades, reasonably accurate, but 2011's O-Line was pretty legit as well. From our fearless leader's twitter:

This is all good for this year but if Ruiz boltz after this year, we have to replace 4 o-lineman? Yikes, hopefully we can get some more o-line some PT in mop up duty.

I think people overlook 2011, but 2000 was still better.
Backus, Hutchinson, Brandt, Goodwin, and Williams.
That's two 1st round draft picks, a 2nd rounder, and a 5th. Brandt was UDFA who was in the NFL for 2 or 3 years.
In total, they combined for ~48 years in the NFL.

With one either should be there or on the way to Canton.

The 2011 line was so sneaky good and it's weird no one really realized how talented they were till after the fact. I suspect the fact that Omameh was 2* guy had me overlooking him and Schofield kind of lived in Lewan's shadow a bit. Then all of a sudden Omameh and Schofield were NFL guys for a while and you're like....wait, that line was really good

Maybe my memory is bad, but while the 2011 line ended up super talented, it didn't translate in their actual performance that year

The coaching staff wasn't exactly helping them out.
That was the transition year and basically Denard ad llibbing most of the offense.
Fitz had 1,000 yards and the offense wasn't terribly far off what it was the year before statistically, though they asked Denard to read a defense way too much and throw from the pocket.

i know bredeson was a drevno recruit (mattison also listed), but overall what coach warinner has done is truly an astonishing accomplishment. i would've laughed in your face if you told me that we'd have actual talent at every position as well as depth on the o line, as opposed to one standout like bredeson or ruiz, only one year after his hire.

Great to hear Big Ben getting some accolades for his stellar play.
I see a few of our opponents also have some representatives on this list, especially on defense.

What does a former Miami (Ohio) and current NFL QB have to do Bredeson?!

Our line will also face the four DEs on the list:
First: Chase Young, AJ Epenesa
Second: Willekes, Julian Okwara (Notre Dame)

The nice thing about zone read and RPO is no one actually needs to block those guys.
August 20th, 2019 at 5:08 PM ^
Things should be very different than last year when those DEs could just get after us especially against OSU and ND, and to some extent NU, when we got behind.
Imagine the very notion, wanting to keep the D on their heels, spread thin, and uncertain, in this day and age. Well I never!

Congratulations to Captain Ben. Hope he ends the year a consensus first-team all american.

Man just think if Grant Newsome was entering his third year? At least second as a starter. Hutchinson would be our biggest concern.....not in the stars I guess.

There's a decent chance Bredeson ends up our 3rd best player on the OL, and that's not a knock on Bredeson at all.

I was down at the stadium last year running steps one night outside at the east entrance and that night happened to be when they held a portion of practice in the stadium. As the team exited the stadium I got fairly close to Bredeson and a couple of other OL.
Bredeson is so much larger than I am that it seems like he's a different branch of homo sapiens altogether.
