The wide receivers are the ones who grew up with everyone saying, "Dang, man, you're fast and you can jump. You're going to make it to the NFL." Nobody knows how to evaluate linemen or linebackers, but it's not hard to see the (often) tall guys who run really fast and score all the touchdowns. A 6'5", 300 lb. guy who's good at football looks a lot like a 6'5", 300 lb. guy who's not good at football.

At least that's the way it has always been in the programs I've seen.

I've seen plenty of big dudes and people are kind of reticent to heap praise on them, because there are a lot more questions about whether they're athletic, whether they're tough, etc.

I heard an explanation once that made sense to me:

For other key offensive positions (e.g., QB or RB) -- you know, with high certainty, which plays you'll be involved in. If you're the top RB on a team, you know going into the game that it is very likely you'll get at least 15 carries and a few catches. If you're QB, obviously you'll touch the ball on every offensive play.

If you're a top WR? There's no guarantee you'll get the ball more than a few times, even if you're open. So if you want to show everyone your skills, you may feel you *have* to demand the ball. And to get your demands noticed, sometimes these folks feel they have to get demonstrative (which can lead to histrionics).

It's a cycle of "THROW ME THE DAMN BALL" that feeds on itself.

Thanks for providing my entertainment for the last few minutes of work. Thoroughly enjoyable...

Looking forward to seeing the additional comments later this evening, that way I know you were thinking about me. lmao

I don't know the whole backstory there, but Stan doesn't come off too well in the book. I don't want to get too political/religious, but when a dad isn't available 100% of the time to his kids, they often get messed up.

I'm too young to know much about Stan Edwards other than what I've seen of him during the Braylon/Berkley/Bailey years, but I'm guessing Bo Schembechler wouldn't have been a big fan of ditching his kid for long stretches of time.

There's already enough antagonism and grudges to go around - none are needed inside the Michigan faithful.  If he wants to heal some rifts, good.  Harbaugh was persona non grata for a short time after his comments at Stanford - water under the bridge.

Let's focus on beating up our enemies and not ourselves.

The issue with Edwards seems to be that he wants the same kind of recognition or treatment as those players at Michigan who were great in college and went on to become legendary in the NFL.  It's too bad, but Edwards did not go on to have the professional career of Woodson or Brady.  He seemed to think he should be some kind of honorary captain, giving guest speeches before games, etc.  He was a great college player here, but there are only a few players in Michigan history who are given red carpet treatment and he always seemed a little burned that he wasn't one of them.

Um, I think you are making his point for him. Based on what he accomplished at UM, if any player does deserve 'red carpet treatment' it is him. Love him or hate him (FWIW, I'm pretty neutral) - he was arguably the greatest WR to ever play for UM based on his on-field accomplishments.

He obviously did not have the NFL career of Brady / Woodson / etc. but I don't think his UM accomplishments should be downgraded. The only reason he does not get 'red carpet treatment' is because he's perceived (correctly, for the most part) as an arrogant and selfish individual, and people don't like his behavior -- not because he didn't have success in the NFL.

After the first under the lights I was leaving the stadium and saw a familiar face driving a SUV. It was Braylon so I popped my head in his window and gave him a fist bump.

I don't remember that play.  Maybe he got YAC credit for picking up a fumble and advancing it off someone else's catch and fumble?

IDK ... that is one weird stat.  Quite fitting, considering Lloyd went with Freddy J's insistence on taking Savoy over Ron E pounding the table for DeSean Jackson.
