Big Ten schedule + why?

Submitted by tsbilly on

Has there ever been any official explanation for the scheduling switch that resulted in Michigan facing MSU twice in a row in East Lansing?

At home vs our two biggest rivals then away vs our two biggest rivals is stupid, especially considering it required a switch in venue.

I consider MSU a "top 2" rival now that ND is gone. I consider ND a bigger rival than MSU b/c they are usually better.

I'm not okay with this move by the B1G.

Sparty got two home games against M from it, but now they also play both OSU and UM at home one year, both away the next.

Had the B10 not required Michigan to play two home games in a row aganst State, all three schols would have one of the others at home every year.  That would be an ideal outcome, which is why the B10 decided to fuck everyone over (except OSU).

to be fair, the b1g has bent over backwards to give nebraska, maryland, and Rutgers the biggest cross overs possible their first years... probably to give them exposure

every odd number year now. I know the opposite every even year, but we have Harbaugh so every year from now on we have the edge in every single game!.... Contradictions Bitchez!

I believe this was one of the main components of the explanation - the shift to East and West as well as the corresonding adjustment to the formula of playing all teams in your division screwed us and a few teams over like that, now that I think about it. The switch to a nine game conference schedule just adds one more out of division opponent, I think, so that wouldn't have been a factor, if I am not mistaken.

That's part of it. In Endzone, er Brandon's Lasting Lessons, Bacon chronicles this exact thing over a handful of different chapters.

In a nutshell, Brandon didn't think that MSU was that important of a game and that OSU & ND were much more important. Hence all he cared about was protecting the OSU game in the schedule discussions. Because of this the big ten pushed this thru without Brandon blinking

If I'm Hackett, I just refuse to have UM play MSU until they come to the Big House twice in a row.  Force the conference to call your bluff, which they never would.

I would not be surprised one bit if Michigan plays them at home in both 2019 and 2020.

The B1G schedules have not been released yet past 2019. I can't imagine this continuing.

Hackett can do this. After all, he brought Harbaugh home.

I've always assumed that the league saw UM, OSU and PSU as historically the best teams in the east and that their priority was ensuring that each team had a schedule that was home and away with the other two every year.

MSU was an afterthought in the scheduling and Brandon was asleep at the wheel in ensuring that UM maintained their traditional schedule.
