Ben Muth: Michael Onwenu should be NFL ROY
"Rookie right tackle Michael Onwenu (71) is solid here too. He has been such a find for New England. He should be the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year. It'll never happen because he doesn't touch the ball, but I find it hard to believe there's a better offensive rookie out there."

Not only does he not touch the ball, but he plays on a losing team that everyone around the league hates.
Good luck, Grapes! We wish you were still in Ann Arbor!!

IIRC, the Penn State fans were all saying Michael was recruited by Michigan only because it was to get Rashan Gary to Michigan (they were friends). They also claimed he'd be a 4 year bench warmer at Michigan.
Ha!

You are thinking of Michael Dwumfour, who is now at Rutgers.

In regards to Dwumfour they were apparently correct.

The only thing I can say in your slight defense is that Dwumfour and Onwenu both wore #50.

Harbaugh and his staff can and do create NFL caliber players. Unfortunately, he is unable to get many of them to play like NFL players while at the college level. How frustrating.

If they were developed properly, they would been drafted higher thus earning them more money, especially out of the gate. So coming here may have cost them real $$$ over their career.

And as usual, the Detroit Lions pass up drafting a player from Michigan, which is good for Mike.

Was so frustrating watching Quinn draft with OGs, passing on Onwenu twice. At least one of those picks seem to panned out already.

OL talent last year was unbelievable. Missed opportunity to take more advantage of it than we did.

= piss poor overpaid coaching!

4 OL drafted, 2 starting in the NFL...
sheesh... I remember Michigan grinding out 2.4 ypa versus freaking Army last year...

Patriots' 6th-round draft pick out of Michigan exceeds expectations ... where have I heard that one before?
November 14th, 2020 at 11:03 AM ^
So Onwenu would have made a great RT when we really needed one but the coaches had him playing G.
November 14th, 2020 at 11:12 AM ^
He finally got some good coaching.

Yes, sad that $7.5 million a year doesn't go as far as it use to.

The funny thing is Michigan played him at RG, not right tackle. He can start on an NFL team at RT, but M leaves him at guard.
