Basketball Awards Ceremony - has anyone been?

Submitted by acs236 on

If you've been, could you tell me a bit about it?  I have a seven year old who wants to go ( a big basketball fan), and I was wondering whether he'd enjoy it.  Is there any opportunity for player interaction?

Thanks.

The banquet? Yes. Last year they had a team signing. It was at Crisler. Really nice event.

I went several times around that age and enjoyed it. I did ask my dad to leave early one year so be prepared for that.

When my dad and I were leaving early that year we decided to explore a bit. We wound up in some sort of control room where you could hear the radio convos between the camera men. Peter Vignier was giving a very long speech when one of the camera men said "I think he's spoken more minutes than he's played".

Not very nice but I about died laughing at the time. I guess you had to be there...

Last year there was player interaction before. About 15 kids there but as posted above, many wanted to leave early. Moose will likely speak as a senior, awards will be given out by the assistant coaches, and likely Levert and Spike. Hard to tell because last year Mitch Nik and GRIII spoke because, well, the NBA was calling. Food was pretty great but signing primarily happened beforehand. Some people go just for the EBay "sign 100 of these so I can sell 'em" signing ahead of time also so if you go, the earlier the better!

I went last year and enjoyed it.  All the players are lined up at tables to sign autographs and/or interact with fans.  I bought a ball from the M Den and had the players and Beilein sign it.  I left early but it was a good experience and kids are welcome.
