"Several sources" Like who? My crazy uncle Charlie? Someone who goes by the handle "brasstrucknuts" on Fortnight?

I won't be surprised if this is real, but I also won't be surprised if Coach Bakich releases a "WTF?!" statement tomorrow.

Welp. Was probably inevitable eventually. The Big Ten is a mid-major in baseball and when you have a good coach at a mid-major, bigger fish tend to want to poach em

Doesn't shock me. I don't know much about college baseball but I feel like I know enough to know that the Big Ten is not a power conference in this sport. There's a reason Michigan was the only Big Ten team to make it to the championship in the last 50-60 years.

SEC, ACC, Pac-12. Take a look over the last 20-30 years at least and minus a few outliers like Coastal Carolina and Fresno, you're only seeing national champions from those conferences. Heck, even the runner ups are largely from those conferences as well.

If he wants to win a national championship, I can't blame him. He took Michigan to unbelievable heights a few years ago, but its going to be much harder to get back to that level in the Big Ten than it is in the ACC.

Let's be real, a not insignificant portion of the fanbase doesn't know who Bakich is and what the Michigan baseball team has done in recent years. I suspect a smaller but still not insignificant % does in fact not know Michigan has a baseball team.

In my mind, there's a certain inherent contradiction in whining about 'sports factories' like Clemson while really just complaining that we can't keep up with them across the board. But how many schools across the country are competitive at the elite level in four of the 'big' spectator sports - football, men's basketball, hockey and baseball? Clemson doesn't have hockey, Clemson's basketball team is essentially a non-factor. Alabama doesn't have hockey, also doesn't do much in basketball. Same with Georgia. Most schools have one sport that they're known for in their region or perhaps even beyond and invest a ton in, some have two. A very select few have three, but four?

You can't really complain about other schools being sports factories but bemoan that Michigan can't hang with the elite schools in a 4th sport in which it structurally makes little sense for Michigan to even invest what they're investing in it because quite frankly college baseball isn't a big enough deal.
