Bad Sign for 100,000 Streak

Submitted by Commie_High96 on
Down town Ann Arbor is dead right now. I have lived in A2 all my life (36 years) and have never seen it so empty on a football Saturday! I am now standing at the corner of Main and Madison 7 blocks from the stadium, and there is 80% open parking spots and no one tailgating.

I will be there and will enjoy the whole day. Game day at the Big House is awesome and will always be. The football will be better soon. There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing choices. It is honor to be a part of M football. I will always look at it that way.

I'm truly glad you feel that way but these problems go beyond football. I think it used to be that and the fan base was part of the family but now we are treated as simpleton cash cows. Yes, the guy mainly responsible for that is gone, technically of his own volition but the problems remain. It used to be more about money and they have to get back there otherwise that 100,000 streak will be the least of their worries since people may just not care. I want to be excited again and want to feel a part of the program but they've got to reach out to the fan base at this point and take action to repair the damage that has been done. This is not impossible and I have some faith in our leaders but they need to start executing better pronto.

It's not just about tickets. This should be bigger than money. Though we disagree we do want the same thing: Michigan being ethical and successful. I hope whoever is the coach next year does well although if we don't adapt we may not ever become relevant again. Time as always will tell.

I already went to the pos Penn State and Indiana games. My truck is out of alignment due to a giant fucking pothole and it's freezing raining. Plus the dumbass decision of making this game at 3:30. I'll be sitting this one out.

Meh, the game's not for a couple of hours, and given the weather and the team I'm not surprised there are fewer people milling about.  They'll keep that streak going even if there are 10 people in the stadium at kickoff.

Looking across the Big 10 minutes before kickoff:

Spartan Stadium:

Memorial Stadium:

The Horseshoe:

This is what shitty weather, bad roads, bad opponents, and good TVs do to football games.

As a Bay Area Blue I can give you the perfect parallel for sparty: da Raidaz. Way more into talking about them than going to see them, always looking to stir the pot with talk about how they're real fans, equally (perhaps more?) pleased when the Niners lose as when the Raidaz win. Any of that sound familiar?

If you're in Ann Arbor, I encourage you to layer up as if you were boarding a boat in the Arctic Circle.  There is no Dave Brandon anymore.  This team - especially our seniors - deserve a show of support from the fans.  I know it's not that simple for anybody, but I would hate for them to go out in front of a half-full Michigan Stadium after such a roller coaster career.  Go Blue.

You know, I guess I just can't get behind the judgmental "if you don't show up" moralizing. Most of us aren't in Ann Arbor, or anywhere near Ann Arbor. At this point, people are going to show up or they're not. It's not shocking people would choose not to, and there's no amount of people telling other fans what to do to change it.

He's more invested in the ridiculous notion that fans should go to games no matter what. This year we have had multiple players and program alumni basically tell fans that it is partially their fault that this team is bad, and that they are not really fans unless they show unwavering support for the team. People shouldn't pay for a shitty product, and people who moralize fandom and think people should follow their team blindly are a big part of the current problems at Michigan.

I kind of hope it ends. Enough with the lying already, there were at least two games this year where it was under 100K.

I hope it ends simply due to the fact that I want to start a new streak in a new era.
