B1G MBB Mythology 2020-2021

How did B1G basketball get to be rated so high this year?  My theory is that we played a lot of games against the ACC, which was nowhere near as good as usual.  For example, Michigan State was considered a top team after beating Notre Dame and Duke.

What am I missing?

I usually agree that single game elimination tournaments don't tell you a lot. But the BIG was in a feedback loop that we sometimes see with SEC football without the dominant Alabama to make it seem like it was true all along. The BIG was basically a competitive and good conference this year, which makes them the same as 4/5 other conferences.

We face another team that plays a lot different style than a lot of the B1G and what we play.

Call me the Polish optimist I always am, but I think this could be 2018 Texas A&M. A team with a high flying offense and us coming off a couple sub-par performances. I think we come out and make a statement.

The Big Ten got the SEC football treatment.

Also, the refs in Big Ten play seem to call the game much different than refs in inter conference tournaments.

Can we stop clutching our pearls about the B1G performance this year already?  This happens incredibly frequently in the tournament; it has never seemed to matter in the long run.  Stop concern trolling and enjoy the remaining games.

2011 - The Big East had eleven teams in the tournament and only two advanced to the sweet sixteen.

2017 - The ACC had nine teams in the tournament and only one advanced past the first weekend.

2018 - The SEC had eight teams in the tournament and only two advance to the sweet sixteen.

The list goes on.
