The Audible Podcast Talks Harbaugh, MGoBlog
The Audible podcast features Stewart Mandel and Mark Snyder discussing HARBAUGH. Following that is a discussion on sports media, blogs, and MGoBlog is featured prominently. Enjoy!
And a MGoBlog shoutout!
EDIT: Is the one host kind of hinting that MGo couldnt do what they do without "mainstream media?" I mean Ace is at every b-ball game and football game...
On the flip side, we sort of got a compliment for our collective obsessive thoroughness about game analysis, so there's that. It is interesting to witness - in person, in a way sometimes - the "traction" (as they put it) this site does seem to have in the MGoCommunity. I've even seen people in this very building on it, even quoting it. Lunchtime reading in places where you didn't expect it - quite amazing really.
When Brian put together the first "meet and greet" with players as guests I ran into a guy at the Atlanta airport who asked if I was going (he saw my Bo-style hat). That was my first wow moment. I'm pretty sure if you're a Michigan sports fan under 50 years old you read MGoBlog. That's a massive quantity of people.
I'm now of the expectation that every time I see someone wearing the slightly more esoteric gear in Canada that they read the blog. The GF and I were out going to a concert the other month and someone blows by us down Bay street with a Harbaugh M hersey on and the gf just looked at me and said 'friend of yours from the blog?'.
Clearly he has never read MGoBlog because he seemed to not realize that the site has its own press passes.
Somewhat ironic that a mainstream media person wouldn't know the details...
It sounded like a little bit of sour grapes to me. "But... we're MAINSTREAM MEDIA!! Why do people choose to read MGoBlog instead??"
I like our chances at 10-1 going into that game (I assume we will lose a fluke game on the road, psu or minnesota)

Yeah, this is why we have to manage expectations a bit.
8-4 (regular season) is what I would like to see as a baseline. That's three wins better than Hoke. Is that reasonable? I think so. But our non-conference is much more challenging than last year.
Edit: OP plus one for the link and the tag haha
Utah is missing some key personnel where we would definitely benefit from - for our passing game to work on Game 1, we definitely need some help there. And we got it - Ruddock + their two CB's graduating/replacement CB being dismissed from the program.
BYU - tough, but at home. Offense/Defense should start hitting their stride by this game.
Oregon State - win
UNLV - garbage.
Maryland - might be difficult, but we have a talent/coaching advantage.
It's the Minnesota/PSU games that are a bit tricky - playing at night in Happy Valley is never easy. But their OL (still) sucks. We can win that.
sparty - hand to hand combat
ohio state - war
if we can break through and beat sparty, this team gets a huge shot of confidence and is entirely in control of their destiny. And anything can and does happen in games against ohio state.
Dude we went 5-7 last year and Ruddock was benched at Iowa.
Pump the breaks, bro.
Our starting quarterback is either a guy Iowa benched last year or somebody with little to no game experience. Nobody can say who our #1 running back is, nor our #1 wide receiver. What makes you think this will be a good team?
Edit: Damnit. Replied to the wrong comment.
Rudock is good. Not great, just good. He actually limits his mistakes and has shown he can thread the needle in the few moments that Iowa asked him to that, which wasn't nearly as often as it should have been, because Iowa.
WR 1 - Chesson
WR 2 - Darboh
RB1 - Johnson
No I don't know the future, but based on what I've seen/heard, that's what I'm going with.
So, you're saying our top 2 receivers are 2 seniors who have combined for 848 career yards and our starting RB is a senior with 370 career yards. I can't even imagine why expectations are low, right?
why not here, and why not now? Also, who are they lining up against that has you worried so much prior to October 17th and the last Saturday in November? Do we not have the coach that can actually take talent and develop it? Is the talent and coaching we face outside of two Saturdays really better? In my estimation, it's not.
Last time I checked, our current guy has done that better than anyone else in the country.
Ruddock went 17TD/3INT in a system he had played in for 4 yrs. This is going to be brand new to him. I'm not saying he is going to suck. He will definitely be better than what we have. I'm just saying Russ Wilson is not walking through that door.
Also, dude I have faith, I've gone to nearly every home game since 2009 and this team isn't very good. I would rather not expect a team to win 10 games. We all now know how hard that is. Harbaugh is a great coach I just don't think you can coach a team up 5 wins. That's a tall order for any coach at any level.
Also, Johnson is coming off an ACL and we have no idea if he will be ready for the season.
Again, I love the optimism...I'm not going to downvote you. I just think expecting Harbaugh will turn us around because he's done it before is a bit naive. Look at Stanford's process. I think a hybrid of that and what he did with the Niners is a realistic expectation. Which means, let's have a winning season, get the team to play hard, tough football and compete in every game, instead of rolling over like they have at points in the last...decade really (not going to get into casting stones at Lloyd, RRod or Hoke). That is not an option with Harbaugh.
ye of no faith. Just watch - this team is going pull a 2011 in that the actual team will be worse than the record indicates, but I'll take it after the garbage 2012-2014 seasons.
10-2 or 11-1 record, but more like a 9-3 team.
We finally get a bit lucky this year.
with a guy who couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.
Look, there's a reason why Harbaugh said he's looking to win a national championship this year and it's not just coachspeak - the dude knows the hand he has relative to the schedule he's playing; he knows it can be done.
A. what else is he supposed to say?
B. He might believe that but I truly believe his goal is to remold this team in his idea of a Michigan team more than wins or losses. He has plenty of work to do.
C. I hope you're right and we go 14-0, humiliate Sparty and make Urban woif down Domino's but I am not as optimistic.
I agree about the brake pumping, but Rudock didn't really get benched. Sounds more like Beathard strongarmed his way into playing in the bowl and Jake got tired of the nonsense.
Utah beat us by 16 points last year at home. Sure they are missing some guys now. Rudock didn't go through spring and we have no pass catchers aside from Butt and possibly Darboh that have proven to be reliable. Just because they have some CB's missing doesn't mean Rudock is going to turn into Elvis Grbac.
BYU- yes at home helps. Still a talented team with an offensive scheme and QB that can give our defense fits.
Agreed on OSU (NTOSU) and UNLV.
Minnesota is going to be a match for us again. I feel like Franklin is overrated but PSU has played us close.
MSU we have not proven we can hang with at all.
Ohio State is the defending champions, with a garage full of the best quarterbacks in the country plus Ezekiel Elliot. Anything could happen, including a two-plus touchdown loss.
Look, I'm going to talk myself into believing (perhaps irrationally) that we can win any of these games along the way but looking at the season as a whole I just don't see us going 10-2 or contending for the Big Ten this year.
I bet we split Oregon State/Utah, Minnesota/PSU, and MSU/OSU (because Rivalry Games). That's optimistically 3 losses, and likely 4. 7-5 or 8-4 are the ceiling IMO.
Objectively, Utah is considered a favorite.
It's depressing that a podcast with Mandel and Snyder isn't in like the top 40% of most obnoxious pairings of CFB pundits.
a bigger deal that fox sports references MGoBlog or that posters here refernce fox sports?
Conceding a level of uneveness here, the inevitable trolls and some inane thought (including my own), I get more value and info from the posting boards here than I do from the MSM. Add Brian's and Seth's and Ace's work, well, no comparison. Now, I admit, there is a lot of bleeding between the MSM and the "new" press ("every man a cubist"), but this place is just so much more fluid and thought provoking.

don't knock Fox Sports, they are going to come up with some way to halo the football next year, so we can actually see it during games.
Plus, their wonderful coverage of the US Open proved, Americans love personal interest stories over live coverage.
We may not beat MSU/OSU in year 1 but the days of losing to Rutgers and Maryland and sweating out wins over Indiana are over.
8-4 at WORST.

Agreed.
I keep looking at the schedule and I see 7-5. Maybe I'm still pessimistic based on the last few years, but I would consider 8-4 as exceeding expectations.

I was going to say: Why in hell are we promoting anything with Mark Snyder's name attached to it? I'm not going to rehash everything during the Richrod years, but what he and Rosenberg did is still unforgivable.
