It just points out how utterly meaningless polls are...Gonzaga plays in a Div 3 conference or so it seams...Baylor? meh dont really know much about them so lets say they are good team from a good not GREAT conference and Michigan top team in the by far BEST league in  the nation not even close ...so its just a popularity contest nothing m ore

I cant imagine the preparation you get from the OSU game vs  Gonzaga winning by 78 points. That is a step down from their practices. Also if Michigan had a tougher preseason but was undefeated and in the MAC would we be number one? Probably. Look at ranking and how the loss column is the determining factor where you are ranked. I think Illinois and Iowa would smoke teams ranked around them. Our big ten bubble teams will probably win their first round games if they can make it in. Loss column decides almost everything for the most part. For example Creighton has lost to Marquette Butler Providence Georgetown and snuck by Uconn and Providence by two. Read that again. That is your 13th ranked team while some Big Ten schools stay home? Hmmm.

Marquette Butler Providence Georgetown are 24-37 in conference.

One might expect someone to put Michigan #1 but it is very easy to put the undefeated teams above Michigan until after Michigan plays Iowa and Illinois.  Gonzaga and Baylor are good enough and haven't lost so why put Michigan above them before they are about to play a few key games.  I don't know that there is a prize for picking the ultimate #1 before everyone else.

It seems to be unanimous that Gonzaga has the most talent of any team in the country. But I have to wonder if they would be undefeated if they played in the BIG. They beat some good teams at neutral sites at the beginning of the year but that is a lot different than playing skilled, experienced, physical teams game after game in home and away series. Even a Minnesota or PSU can give any team a rough game. It's a grind, wears people down mentally and physically. An injury or even an off-game can mean a loss.
