Anyone else in hot water with the Mrs?

Submitted by CLord on

I gambled by watching the game within earshot of the better half and lost.  My F-laced outbursts both good (Poole) and bad (Mo chin foul, MAAR missed lay up) brought my lovely but non-sports understanding wife of 8 years to startled tears, soon followed by a blubbering "You have to hold yourself to a higher standard of comportment" lecture.  She wasn't wrong.  I was pretty bad.  It felt so good.  I'm still smiling.  Jordan Poole.  Texted a buddy and he informed me he too was in hot water with his wife!  Good times.

Lesson: If you marry someone whose college sports passion is less than 10% of yours, watch the game in the same zip code at your own peril.

Anyone else earn spousal heat tonight over some short term turrets?

My Hoosier wife is fully converted to a passionate Michigan fan. I spend most of the time in my man cave downstairs cuz she can't take my pacing. But I came upstairs to join her and we watched the last shot together! And then we danced and laughed and shouted and cried and had a great night GO BLUE!

I watched with my Ohio State fan wife, and she was happy for me and glad her bracket did not bust. She roots for Michigan in every non-OSU matchup. She also loves basketball. She did say I had to put our toddler back to bed, but I did wake him the f- up with an uncontrollable yell.

7 month old woke up hungry about an hour after the game. I was still up pumped. I started making the bottle and she walls in "you're still up?". I was like "you're not going to believe how the game ended". I should have just said, "Hey, I've got the kid. You go back to sleep." Instead, she sits down to feed him and I've got my phone reached around her other shoulder trying to get her to watch the Poole highlight. She reacted with an enthusiasm known to Bill Belichick.

That was when you should have started to give her a back and shoulder massage while she's feeding your kid. Whatever angst she had would have dissipated faster than a stinky fart during a wind storm. You messed up man. Better go buy her flowers this morning.

My wife is a huge sports/Michigan fan but thinks my “outbursts” at the refs or terrible plays is “childish”. Oh well!

I'm in the same situation. My husband has an over-developed sense of fair play and right-and-wrong. He seems almost wounded by a bad call. For me, the overreaction sucks the fun out of watching. Why get caught up in things you have no control over?

I am in trouble...... Excitedly ran into the bedroom to tell her all about the game winner.... She was sleeping, and 9 months pregnant. Oops!!! Edit: totally worth it!

The MGoWife does her best to enjoy sports with me. That being said, because I was celebrating my heritage yesterday and the game ending so late, I got some spousal heat this morning because...wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

No sense in yelling. I Get worked up, but I've learned that they can't hear you in the tv. even when msu punt happened, I calmly turned the tv off and placed the remote on the table. my dogs used to get scared when I'd watch a game of high importance to me. it kind of made me feel bad. now, I do a better job. I did wake the wife and both dogs up last night though when I yelled "he made it !"

I have the closet of a twelve year old, everything in it is maize and blue so I'm pretty sure my wife knew what she was in for. So rather than fight it she joined it

Woke up my wife from yelling. Whatever - her game is today and she would have done the same. I didn’t wake up our 2.5 year old so, I win.

I screamed loud when Poole's shot went in.  My wife was still awake so no issue there.  And our 9 month old was sleeping two levels up where the sound from the basement is highly attenuated.  I figured I was safe letting loose.  All turned out well.  So no, I'm not in any hot water.

BTW, I rarely scream profanities anymore with bad ref calls.  It happens so often to us in basketball and football that I've become numb to it.

Nothing better than high-fiving my Wolverines wife after we endured that game together.  I'm lucky.   She's as rabid a sports fan as me.   Her stomach isn't twisted into as many knots as mine, but there is no place she would rather be than watching the games.   I'm still hoarse this morning, but i didn't have to worry about waking anyone up last night.

My wife yelled so loud at the winning shot it startled the dog and woke up my daughter. I picked the right one to marry and after being married 17 years she gives me little reminders like that to show me how lucky I am.

I bit my fist to keep from screaming out my joy when Poole hit the shot. Seemed to work, but a little awkward while jumping up and down like a maniac.

I would think after 8 years she’s figured you out by now. I’ve broken many things in the house do to MSU and osu games. Last night the remote went flying when the 3 tip ins didn’t go in and yet another foul was called. When it was all over all she had to say was “see?”

The mere fact that you were able to post this, and you allegedly have a brain to think about stuff is astonishing in and of itself.

Now, if your wife was really crying--she has issues. Get out. NOW. That you can't enjoy a sporting event without a lecture on how to behave? Did you marry your mother?

Secondly--that you stood there and took it, then felt bad about how you acted?

Turn in the Man Card now please.

Figure skating sounds like the sport for you.

My wife simply mentioned this morning that she heard the celebration in the living room and then went back to sleep.

These whole thread is just sad. People are in trouble for saying/yelling words at a tv. A wife crying because her husband is super excited and said some cuss words over a game. It’s not surprising that she needed to use the word comportment.

You have no doubt heard “if you didn’t marry a sports fan (and a Michigan sports fan at that ) you settled.” Only partially true. My wife is not a sports fan either.

This is why you marry a Michigan grad.  She was just as thrilled as me (once she woke up).  She made me run the replay back over 2 or 3 times just to bathe in the glory.  That's the Michigan difference.

My wife is from South America and therefore does not grasp the global cosmological significance of Michigan sports, how the performance of our football and basketball teams affects global politics, lunar cycles, tides, etc. I have tried, very patiently, to educate her but man, she just does not get it...

Married 18 years and I got the "You're acting like a child" yell from the other room and I gave exactly zero fucks. She's been saying that every year for 18 years and I expect in about 2 more years she'll just stop.
