Angelique Chengelis: Wormley thinks Hurst will be back & Harbaugh thinks Drake could play

Submitted by Indonacious on

Wormley says his "gut feeling" is Hurst will be back at UM next year

Granted this likely means nothing but nice to hear this way vs. a "no comment"...

Harbaugh on Big Ten call: "where he's at physically...what i've seen in practice" says Drake Johnson should be ready to play this weekend

With eligibility to come back but I'm more than happy to root like crazy for these guys in the NFL. We will restock and have new studs to root for every year!

Hope he's right. Bringing Hurst back is big considering how much production we're losing next year, just from graduation alone. Gary is the only significant contributor that we know is coming back next year. Having Hurst back would ease some of that.

I'm not sure if I'd rather Drake play or get a medical redshirt and come back next year.
Playing this year gives us one more type of back to use and helps with the inevitable Running Back getting dinged up issue.

But coming back next year gives us
Isaac, Evans, Higdon and Johnson in experienced runners along with Samuels, Dillon and Taylor coming in.

DT - Mone, Hurst, Gary, Hudson, Dwumfour, Paea

DE - Winovich, Kemp, Vilain, CMH, Johnson(s)

Onwenu can ply in the DT slot - Gary can play wherever he wants

the first 4 in the DT depth chart look fine - and our freshman next year could also tear it up

plus whomever else commits like Tufele, Irving-Bey

as long as we add another 1 or 2 I think DL will be just fine for 2017 & 18

The OL and CB positions is the only one where I think we are at risk for 2017 - by 2018 we'll be fine

Hurst coming back allows us to field a
Winovich-Hurst-Mone-Gary starting D-Line.

That is nuts.

Still leaving us with guys like Uche, Kemp, Dwumfour, Marshall, Onwenu, Johnson that could explode and that's not even getting into the freshman!

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to even see Peppers stay.

Sure he's a lock for the 1st Round (arguably a Top-10 lock!).

But, you only get to go to college once, and the NFL is, well, we've got a coach who looks like he has ZERO regrets about leaving and will not return.

Ann Arbor is a wonderful town, and growing up too fast is a mistake.

Woulnd't be surprised to see him stay, and plus you can take out all those insurance policies nowadays anyways.

I don't know if you're trying to fool yourself, but you're certainly not fooling me. This will be Peppers' last season and it should be. He'll be ready for the next level and he's going to be too high of a pick to stay. He can always finish school later in life. The NFL is such a unique opportunity and has a short shelf life that he should do what's best for him. And as a top 10 pick that is get drafted, get money, and get your NFL career started. He of all people knows how short his time can be, having to redshirt due to injury his freshman season. It's truly a shame that we really only got 2 season out of him. Nobody would have been shocked if he was only in Ann Arbor 3 years, but it would have been nice to have him contribute all 3 of those years.

Would have loved to see Peppers play for 3 years.  On the other hand, year one was under Hoke - so seeing his talent wasted would likely have been a major downer.  Also, he might have won a few more games for Hoke, in which case Hoke may have lasted another year, forcing us to see his talent wasted for two years (in addition to never having Harbaugh). *shudders*

There are only 64 players taken in the 1st & 2nd rounds of the NFL Draft. Willie Henry was pick #132 last year, barely making it in the end of the 4th round in compensatory picks.

Every year people put this crazy talk out there. Maurice Hurst is not even a starter right now. He is going to need to have an All-American second half of the season to get a positive evaluation from the NFL Draft Advisory Board as only around 20 players/year get a recommendation to leave early. Especially in Hurst's case, no organanization is going to spend a high pick without seeing more or a monster workout.

McCray would be the only true "starter" returning. Mone and Hurst are 2-deep guys but not sure if considered "starters". Mone took the first series of the Hawaii game alongside Glasgow, but it appears Godin is out there to start the game usually now.

Rashan Gary is the other main contributor returning, along with Tyree Kinnel and Chase Winovich who seem to get a decent amount of snaps. Lot of true freshman this year (that have played in the blowouts) should be contending for permanent starting roles as sophomores. I wonder if Clark can come back for a sixth year, he'd for sure be a starting CB.

I hope it's true.  Hurst could finish up that degree and get a higher draft grade.  I think he'll definitely push for AA status.  He's a monster already.

If Drake is ready to go and wants to, I think they should let him play.  He might not want a 6th year.  He could want to just graduate.

Happened this year already  2x AA Conor Youtsey of the Michigan wrestling team had his 5th/SR year ahead, but graduated and got a local job instead.  Would have been nice to see him stay and try for 3x AA.
