Jack Dunaway's previously undisclosed battle with cancer is highlighted in the Detnews article from Angelique Chengelis.  Jack is a former player circa 2016-19 and asst coach under Gattis. Many of you will remember Jack's dad, star TE Craig Dunaway from Bo's 1st Rose Bowl winning squad in 1981. Thankfully Jack's treatment has been very effective, and he and Alex Malzone are organizing a charity boat cruise this Friday in Chicago for anyone in the Windy City. Craig,  Malzone,  Jack Miller and Bobby Henderson will be there among the former players there.

Miller and the elder Dunaway provide some poignant moments about having a friend or worse,  a child with cancer and how to cope with the shock and start to win the fight. And Jack himself probably said it best: "It taught me what was most important to me in my life, and what I value above all things is my relationships with people that I love," Dunaway said. "It's unfortunate that it takes something like cancer to kind of show you that.

Thank goodness he's currently OK.

Jack's experience (obviously unpleasant) aside, I can't imagine anything worse than being a parent whose child has a potentially life-threatening illness. (I know that testicular cancer is relatively "well behaved.")

Our son went through three bouts of tongue cancer starting his sophomore year at Purdue (and no, he has never smoked, chewed etc) over a 10 year period. Thank goodlness he has been cancer free for 7 years. Our oldest daughter is going throuh her second round of chemo for colon cancer. I can assure you, cancer is a bitch.
