The University's basketball arena being named after a historic and legendary football coach is in no way equivalent to a walk-on second strong safety being the son of a former MLB player and Tigers 1st base coach. I did not remember Andy van Slyke's playing days as I was too young and I am not from Detroit so I did not know he was the Tigers first base coach until this year. Please find it in your heart to forgive such ignorance.

I could be wrong but Ken Wilkins, I believe, is the grandson of NBA legend Dominique Wilkins.
By the way, was Wilkins (Ken) always listed as a Rivals 4 Star and 17 at his position? Because, he is now.

He was born in 1960, which which means he would have been roughly 32 when Ken was born, which means he must have sired Ken's mother or father at a WAY young age if my math is right (say 16 or 17), and they in turn must have had Ken way early (15 or 16). Entirely possible, but that's some young motherin' and fatherin'. Wow.

I for one had no idea he is Andy van Slyke's son. Interesting.

He might be a contributor.

So it seems he transferred from Southeast Missouri State. Anyone know if he's a walk-on or on scholarship?
August 21st, 2009 at 10:30 AM ^
He's a walk-on
August 21st, 2009 at 10:28 AM ^
I was aware of this. And if he sees much playing time, especially on ESPN games, get ready to hear about it incessantly, too.

I didn't know that. I see value in your post.

I didn't know that either. It's definitely pretty cool though. Van Slyke has looked pretty athletic in the limited plays I've watched him.

Cool story brah...

Is it okay to both love and hate some of you at the same time?
August 21st, 2009 at 12:39 PM ^
It's a nice story but I'm not sure I want a walk-on starting at safety.
August 21st, 2009 at 12:44 PM ^
Interesting, but I'd care more about his bloodlines if he were playing baseball.

This has been discussed, a couple times. Do people never use the search tool before the post topics?
