Andy Potts wins Ironman 70.3 Vineman

Submitted by Baloo_Dance on

Big win today for Andy! I think it was a somewhat loaded field for a 70.3. 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, then a 13.1 mile run.

Edit 1 - Splits are up, 24:30 on the swim, 2:08:33 on the bike, and 1:12:13 on the run.

Edit 2 - WD, make sure this gets in your Super Guide.

#IM703Vineman @Andy_Potts is your 2016 IRONMAN Vineman champion in a winning time of 3:48:09. Congrats! @IRONMANtri

I would agree - that is a crazy half-marathon pace, but when I reflect on my own abilities in this regard, it is a totally achievable third-of-a-marathon pace for me if I hoof it - I would probably pull immediately away from the pack (which would have left me far behind) and into the nearest pub. In all seriousness though, it is pretty impressive to me.

Have spoken to him at a few races and he's a super nice guy.  Always good for a "go blue".  Just really wish he would have taken a bit more interest into his bike sponsor/setup.  For the past several years he's been giving away a lot of time with poor bike choice and poor set up.

I've been really hoping that he's the one who breaks the non American winner streak at Kona!

He also won Ironman 70.3 Coeur d'Alene a few weeks ago. His swim and bike were similar, but looks like his Vineman run was a bit faster. Guy is straight up filthy.

Course yesterday was prime for a good time - it's a bit of a rolling course with some killer hills about 42-43 miles in. Same for the run in terms of having a few uphill screamers.

Andy's a great dude and amazing athlete - came back thru the chute to high-five everyone after the win.

It was my first 70.3 yesterday - didn't hit my sub-5 hour goal but had a blast out there. :)
