All Big Ten Teams Announced

Submitted by Harbaugeddon on December 17th, 2020 at 4:56 PM

The all big ten teams were announced over the last few days with a handful of wolverines drawing mention. While it was noted the other day that UM had a grand total of zero players honored on offense... we had still very disappointing, but slightly better showings in defense and special teams.

Offense: N/A

Defense: Kwity Paye (2nd Media), Daxton Hill (HM), Carlo Kemp (HM), Michael Barrett (HM), Brad Hawkins (HM)

Special Teams: Giles Jackson (3rd Coaches/Media), Brad Robbins (HM)

Congratulations to the student athletes recognized! May there be many more joining them to make the cut next year!

Under any other coaching staff Hill would've been a shoo-in for 1st team.  Alas.

Also having 0 players on offense doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies for next year.  Hope McCarthy, Worthy and Edwards are ready from day one.

Expecting big performances on offense was probably not a good idea. This just wouldn't be realistic considering everything that happened.

QB Milton (first-year starter, project)
RB Charbonnet/Charbonnet/Haskins/Corum (too much rotation)
TE Eubanks (injured to start the year)
LT Hayes (injured)
LG Filiaga (first-year starter)
C Vastardis (first-year starter)
RG Stueber (solid)
RT Mayfield (injured)
WR Collins (opted out)
WR Roman Wilson (freshman)
WR Ronnie Bell (probably not targeted enough)

All-conference selections are usually either a) breakout performances or b) name recognition awards.

The only guys with any real shot on offense might have been Bell and Haskins, considering they were experienced players who stayed healthy. The QB struggles probably limited Bell, and the injuries/inexperience up front hurt everything (QB/WR/TE/RB).

This year was just a mess all-around. It was likely to be a struggle, and then virtually everything went wrong.

It’s like a carbon copy of 1984! Michigan went 6-6 overall. 5-4 in conference. Starting QB (guy with an odd last name) was hurt. Michigan lost to MSU and OSU and lost a bowl game. It was Bo’s 16th season with a proven history of success at high levels. Started the season beating #1 Miami at home.....wait.

Yes, Miami ended up 8-5 and un-ranked. However Michigan lost to Washington in week two who finished the season 11-1 and ranked 2nd. They also lost to BYU in the Holiday Bowl and BYU ended up winning the National Championship. For Bo to have his worst season ever, it required losses to the #1 and #2 final ranked teams in the country.

Can we please stop rationalizing this season as if it were still the 80’s? The system is currently set up for good teams to have very little variance in performance year to year. I’m not talking elite Alabama, Clemson, OSU. I’m talking good teams. From year to year the variance of a good team will be between 8-4 and 11-1. Michigan should be able to consistently stay in this realm. This is what they were from Bo to Mo to Lloyd.
