If you have a traditional Cable/Satellite provider, they're also distributing the games in 4K, provided you have the right equipment/channel package -

If you're using the Fox Sports App, the following devices are 4K stream compatible  - Apple TV 4K, Fire TV 4K and Roku Ultra.

I was quite surprised to put on the Northwestern-Minnesota game and have the Comcast pop up say it was available 4K.
I wish CBS would stop being such cheapskates and get with the program.  They won’t have any NCAA tournament games 4K and didn’t even offer it for the Super Bowl.

As far as upscaling goes, your equipment makes a big difference.  I have an older Sony Bravia and a 1 year old LG.  The LG (at 1/3 of the cost) just kicks ass with it's version of upscaling.  I suppose the specifics of the image make a difference, too, but some of the upscaled pictures I see are breathtaking in their sharpness and (apparent) resolution.  Oddly enough, Black and White movies are among the best.

Will be curious how this actually looks. Fox Sports App sucks. Games stream for me fine on ESPN, CBS, but Fox Sports App never looks smooth.

I started using the Fox Now app instead, which is literally the exact same app with a different icon up in the corner. Much smoother stream. Not sure why it helps, maybe Fox has a dedicated amount of bandwidth for each and nobody uses Fox Now?

Don't know if 4K will make the jerkiness better or worse. I'd rather have less resolution and have it not look like people are teleporting around the court.

Roku 4K TV and Xfinity 4K support.  If the game is available in 4K, Comcast tells me it will automagically select the correct channel and tune to it for me.  We'll see how this works out...  I'll probably need to download the app on the TV, right?  Such BS...

I have a 75 inch 4K TV in the basement and am considering an upgrade to my 52 inch Samsung in my family room.  I have Directv and am curious if any other Mgobloggers out there pay the extra $7 for 4K capability....is it worth it? Can you tell the difference?

I have a projector, so it magnifies the difference pretty well.  It is better, but not like a 4K Blu-ray better.  And 4k was free for me after I upgraded the receiver.  No additional monthly charge.  I would call them and get a CSR that will do that for you.

I'm just hoping for more sports content, as it has been thin unless you're into soccer.

I paid for HD and 4K before I dropped DirecTV due to cost.  They're pretty desperate for users right now, call and tell them to drop the surcharges - especially if you have another HD provider you can use as leverage.  Pretty sure they'll work with you...

I do miss DTV, though.  Their menu system and UI is way superior to the Comcast Xfinity menu that it's not even funny.  Comcast's voice remote is good for searching, but the whole system is really slow.  And the menu is not anywhere as nice as DTV's.  But the cost was a substantial difference (~$150/month)!

No, YTTV does not support 4K streaming (yet - https://blog.youtube/inside-youtube/neal-innovation-series/)

However, if you have a Apple TV 4K, Fire TV 4K, or Roku Ultra - you download the Fox Sports app to that device and use your YTTV credentials to stream the game in 4K in the Fox Sports app.

Any cheap way for me to get this if I don't have a tv provider or want to pay for youtube tv, hulu live, etc? Is the app maybe available standalone through anything?

See if any of those services offer a free trial or free week/month of service. Just be sure to cancel it literally as soon as you sign up, youll still have your free time period. I know I sometimes randomly want to stream something that is on Hulu and I just make an account with a new E-Mail for the month free trial.

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up!

I bought a Sony OLED last fall and the 4K sports I’ve watched(mainly college football on fox through dish network) was amazing. Certainly makes a difference. More providers need to start offering this!
