Air Fryer Is In My Kitchen

Thanks for the feedback, we went with a Ninja and just had some unbreaded chicken wings and holy shit they were crispy and delicious.  This thing is going to get a ton of use in my kitchen.  ?

Congrats, i bought the Emeril Legasse pressure cooker/air fryer a couple of months ago, pressure cooker is awesome but the air fryer is cumbersome.

I plan on eventually buying the XL Turbo air fryer that looks like a toaster oven...happy cooking everyone!

Quicker and easier seem like real reasons. I am just wondering, because while I've never really been tempted to buy one of these things, if they are in fact superior to all other appliances for doing a particular thing, maybe I should be tempted. But if they're just cheaper, eh.

I know nothing about his life, but he looks terrible also -- like maybe he's deep in the throes of alcoholism or some other addiction. I realize my speculation is irresponsible and Emeril may read this blog. Emeril, if you're reading this, GET HELP! GoBlue96 and I are fans and we need you healthy and cooking good Cajun food. Bam!

Y'all trippin'.

He sold his brand to Martha Stewart for $50,000,000 and peaced the fuck out. He also got millions from the state of Florida for his Florida show, in a somewhat shady deal. The guy runs his restaurants now, to the extent that they can stay in business despite downturns in his usual market segment.

He's just getting old. Give the guy a break.

I think he overextended himself. He has restaurants in three or four states plus cooking shows plus maybe a dozen cookbooks. After a certain point it gets hard to maintain quality or keep people interested.

(Even harder if he has health or addiction issues, as Marvin suggested, but I have no clue.)

Please allow me to intervene as I've been working on wings for awhile in the air fryer.

Always thaw out and dry as best you can.  Also, if you can trim them up so the egregious fat parts that normally burn or get hard are gone, I think that improves the end product.

Next, I dry rub liberally.  I use salt, pepper, garlic powder, cumin, cayenne, whatever you like.

Spread out and fry on 300 for 15 minutes.  Shake and put back in on 390 for 10 minutes.

Spin in your favorite sauce, then put under broiler until the sauce starts to char.  Put them back in the leftover sauce, spin again, and eat the best non fat fried wing you've ever had.

You can do better...  Try some Kosmos Q dry rub, specifically the Honey Killer Bee flavor (but almost any will work), in place of the ad hoc collection of stuff you see laying around the cupboard.  You may think that the (relatively) high cost of a pre-made dry rub isn't worth it, but just give it a try...

Another thing that makes wings taste better - smoke.  If you have access to a smoker, you'll experience even better wings.  If nothing else, go out on your deck with a foil pan, some wood chips (available at any grill display), a rack to put the wings on over the chips, and enough foil to cover everything.  Smoke for at least 30 minutes, then finish them in your air fryer.

I have the "Power Air Fryer XL" and use it daily. Pizza rolls, the mozzarella sticks from Sam's Club, chicken wings.... not to mention all the adult food lol

My wife and I've been making breaded boneless wings in our air fryer. Even bought some racks to help space them out and get more done at once. typical fried chicken breading, spritz with oil 10 minutes at 370, then flip them all, spritz with oil and 10 more minutes at 370. Come out crispy and delicious.

My wife walked out to my office (a month or so ago) with a plate of wings that she made in some "air fryer" that she recently purchased. She talked about it for 3 minutes while holding the plate. Not sure what she said. She left. My fat a** attacked them. A dozen gone, maybe 10 minutes later

Told her an hour later "those were the most crisp, and amazing wings  I've ever had".

While my compliments were based in part on getting a the potential for a fancy kiss later in the night, the wings were AMAZING.

I know there's a place for fatty, slimy, wet wings (yes, I love those too). But any device that sucked the slop out of a wing, makes them crisp (and salty), and allows my wife to think she made me something healthy, is my kind of device.

Viva la' Air fryer...or whatever it's called.

I make air fryer wings several times per week.  I’d like to think I’ve learned a few things along the way.  It was said above, but drying the wings is essential. Also, I can’t overstate the importance of putting a little baking powder in the seasoning mix. It crisps the skin better. The difference is noticeable.

My wing seasoning:

1 part salt

1 part onion powder

0.5 part Ground black pepper

0.5 part garlic powder

1 part baking powder

I don’t have an air fryer, but am a (reasonably) accomplished cook of a variety of persuasions.  If you’re after crispy wings, parboiling followed by convection oven makes a very, very good, I’d swear it’s deep fried, wing (and more healthy even than air fried).  Just watch them carefully, they go from golden to overdone very fast:
