Afternoon Harbaugh Update (positive news)

Meaningful Portion:

According to sources I have spoken to this afternoon, the folks in Ann Arbor do not believe they are out on Harbaugh and are not prepared to move on to any sort of Plan B.
From what I have been told, U of M has lined up everything that Harbaugh’s people have requested to date including:
1) The money.
2) A say in the hiring of the permanent Athletic Director once Jim Hackett steps aside.
3) Administrative control.
4) Complete autonomy regarding disciplinary actions of players.
There has been no definitive response to U of M’s generous offer from the Harbaugh camp as of this writing which has led to a disagreement inside the Michigan Athletic Department. There is some internal debate regarding whether or not to give Harbaugh a deadline to make a decision.
Last night at the Michigan Football Bust in Livonia a meeting took place among the university’s mega donors and the prevailing thought was the odds of landing Harbaugh was still very good. Mainly because of the crap load of money they have earmarked to get the prodigal son to return to A2.
Sources also indicated to me that Hackett has played this perfectly with the [Jack] Harbaugh camp and there is nothing more he could do in his efforts to land Jim.
The big question now is whether or not to issue an ultimatum and how Jim would react to that potential “calling of the clock.” (Jeff Moss, Detroit Sports Rag)

OK, maybe it'd be better if one of us takes one of his off his hands?  Whatever arrangement JH would like among his 6 and our many can be done.  Respectfully and within the parameters of the law, of course.

could be used to put together a nice dowry.  cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats, you name it.

in fact, we have trained the sheep on the farm to say, 'har-BAAA!  har-BAAA!'

throw in our old pick-up truck and we got ourselves a deal, right jimmy?

No way JH wants either of my 2 year olds so he def doesn't want your newborns. My dog is 10. I love him to death but would give him to Jim if he came to AA. I bet he would love spending the rest of his days on campus with JH as opposed to 2 year old twins punching him. I'll visit you when I can buddy.

Sorry guys, I'm an asshole and couldn't hit submit. I'd give him a kid, but not my dog. I use the app so your negs are meaningless to me.

This guy is an immature moron and shows it on twitter almost every day. However, he is pretty reliable and well sourced. I do put a fair amount of trust into what he says when it pertains to matters such as this. He seems to be in some cooperation with Gregg as well, so take that for what its worth.

An ultimatum would be dumb. Let the guy finish his NFL season, and then he will make his decision.

I don't think it's dumb in the sense that you don't want to be wasting time trying to woo him while you could be pursuing other options if he feels that he is unlikely to accept. It would be dumb if the ultimatum was before his season ended, though.

You want one guy and you are making that pitch. He is good to go as the best option until he isn't. So, hurry up and wait. That's the mode we're in. You want this guy, you get him on his terms. Hackett will get us somebody good, no doubt. We want Harbaugh and we won't get him unless we conform to his timetable. Seriously, every one else can wait. This is Michigan Fergodsakes.

Exactly my thoughts. Why give a guy a deadline to make a decision while he's still in the middle of his season? Now, if it's a bit after the 49ers' season has ended, that would be more reasonable, but before December 29th, you're likely just asking to get turned down!

I don't necessarily agree.  You would need more info before knowing whether or not an ultimatum is dumb in this situation.

For example:  If Bob Stoops is interested, looks likely to accept, but says, I need to know before 12/15, otherwise I am no longer interested, then I think that you need a firm yes or no from Jim H.  Stoops is an A+ list candidate, and you would not want to pass on him only to be told "sorry, I am staying in the NFL" by Jim at a later date.  Same would be true if, for example, you insert a number of other top coaches into my hypo.

If, however, you have nobody else of major worth lined up, then yes, I agree with you, the ultimatum would be dumb.

Whatever your "hypo" is, I'm not inserting coaches in there.  Especially the ones we're seriously considering for the job.  I might insert Schiano into your hypo as an experiment though.  He could report back if being inserted into your hypo is a fun time.

I know Stoops was a hypothetical, but goddammit we should be so lucky. Anyway - you're right on. That feedback would impact the "swim lanes" Hackett was talking about. We can't afford to miss out on another "A" candidate because JH can't decide yet. I get his process and we have time to spare now. However, info like that could change things. It sucks, but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

If I understand this correctly, SF will be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention if they lose to Seattle and if Detroit beats Minnesota.  It seems reasonable at that point to put the pressure on him to give them an answer.

But at the same time, all their other candidates won't be going anywhere between now and the end of the month so maybe it doesn't matter.

What is the incentive to push for an answer one week ahead of time? Frankly, I think Hackett would have waited longer to fire Hoke if not for the fanbase putting pressure, and it would have made everything better.
