Admissions decisions for high school seniors went out about an hour ago. Congrats to our newly minted Wolverines. Anybody on the board get in or have a family member who got in?

Congratulations, and totally agree.  Back in my day, I only applied to UM, wrote an X in pencil through the essay section, and bombed the SAT (and refused to take it again). Not only did I get in, they called my house to congratulate me. I wasn’t home, parents took a message for me.

Man times have changed.  But what the F was wrong with me, and how did my parents let me get away with that?

Too stressful for kids and parents these days.  Went through it 9 years ago with my daughter.  Deferred, then got in.  Lots of tears, hugs, jumping up and down, and purchases at M Den…

My daughter was accepted into LS&A!!!

When I applied I got a phone call ten days after I sent in my application and they told me I was in.

Magic eight ball says: ask again later. Specifically around 2038.

Opened a 529 a year ago specifically with the goal of our son being able to attend Michigan, if he wants to, without him having borrow a dime to do it. I can only hope that by the time he’s ready to make his decision that we’ll have enough saved.

Spending any dollar saved is always better than spending any dollar borrowed. But still, barring an extremely fundamental overhaul of how we approach higher education (which is another convo for another time) finding a way to pay for all of it is an extremely scary thought. We will not be on instate tuition.

We put away a few hundred bucks every month for his 529, but I’m still preparing myself for the very real possibility that I’ll have to tell him he’ll be on the hook for part of his education if UM is what he wants to do.

Congrats to all the Wolverines-to-be!

I don't recall there being any early decision option back when I applied (1997). I had known since I was a little kid that I wanted to go to U-M, and my grades and test scores put me solidly in the 50th percentile of admitted students. So I needed every advantage I could get. I worked on my application during August and had it ready to submit the first day they started accepting applications in September. I got my admissions letter in October, sent in my enrollment deposit the following week, applied for financial aid, got my award notice in November, and then proceeded to take a seven month nap.

My son was deferred by engineering.  Applications today are crazy.  He is so much more qualified than I was (GPA, ACT, SAT, quality of his HS, two alums as parents) and he got deferred.  Bummed....except for the bank account.  We will see.  One more school we are waiting on.

Best wishes. I posted earlier about a deferred family friend. I got some more details last night. Shortening the story, this kid's profile was pretty similar to friends from the same HS who got in. Close enough that they couldn't conclusively point to a weak spot. I also got the sense that it's not the end of the story as far as admission is concerned. If things went well academically last fall there could be good news in the future.
