I'm so glad Washington's getting this recognition.
They've got a REALLY good team. They were so close in a lot of games last year and everyone got a year older and another year in the new system. The defense came along and they got a top QB to go along with 2 great WRs.
They're dangerous and I think the Pac-12 is wildly overrated this year. In fact, I wouldn't be surprise if Washington is the only team even close to the playoff hunt.

Chantal posted on Twitter just now that Washington has blitzed five times. That's for the whole season.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:36 PM ^
Meanwhile, Don Brown does that in 4 plays.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:46 PM ^
Ha. I understand not needing to blitz very often, but why wouldn't you do it at least a little more often than that? Some additional surprise pressure once in a while can't hurt.

Clemson is gonna pluck Louisville's feathers tomorrow. They're gonna shut down the QB scramble shit and it'll be game over after that. Bet it's a blowout.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:34 PM ^
No way in hell that's a blowout. Maybe an even match. Maybe Clemson wins comfortably. No blows, no outs.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:37 PM ^
If Lamar Jackson is contained what do you think happens to Louisville's point production? Clemson is substantially bigger, stronger and faster than these guys. Louisville took FSU by surprise I think...Clemson has lots of film to study. I says blowout sir! I got an apple for your horsey if I'm wrong.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:42 PM ^
Contained? He'll challenge 'em through the air if not on the ground. And make it a Granny Smith.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:35 PM ^
Yea right...
Like Stanford, Clemson hasn't looked right ALL year.
Like Washington, Louisville's defense is solid.
It should be a great game. I think it'll be one of those games with an ugly first half where neither team looks great, but a national championship level 2nd half.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:39 PM ^
Hope it's a good game for you since you'll be there but Clemson has the talent to shut that QB scramble down. That's exactly what I would be keying on all week during practice.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:53 PM ^
How long did teams have to prepare for Vince Young? Or Mike Vick?
Shit, use Clemson's own Watson! Bama's defense was NAAASTY last year. Watson still carried that team on his back.
Gameplan all you want, some guys, just have that "it" factor.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:35 PM ^
I think Clemson will win comfortably, but not by a blowout. Louisville's defense has actually looked pretty solid thus far.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:38 PM ^
I can't see a blowout since Clemson has played like ass so far this season. They haven't been able to really get their offense going and Louisville has a good defense.

Washington is whooping some Cardinal ass right now
September 30th, 2016 at 9:34 PM ^
Stanford looking rattled.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:37 PM ^
So Shaw has 1 Rose Bowl win since Harbaugh set a monster momentum...
Meh.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:40 PM ^
It's Stanford.
He's done a GREAT job post Harbaugh (who never made it to a Rose Bowl - obviously because he was building the program).
Harbaugh really only had 1 elite year at Stanford, his last one. Then he left.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:42 PM ^
He's a top 20 coach, I guess.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:49 PM ^
Read the trivia stat below.
He's EASILY a top 10 coach in CFB right now. He's one of the hottest names right now for college jobs and NFL jobs.
Let's try it...in no order in the groupings
#1-#3: Saban, Harbaugh, Meyer
#4-#10: Swinney, Fisher, Dantonio, Petersen, Patterson, SHAW....who else?
Herman? Freeze? BERT? Old Man Snyder? Strong? Cheatin Petrino? Sumlin? Wittingham?
He's clearly a top 10 coach and it's not even close.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:52 PM ^
I'd rather have at least 15. Most you have mentioned.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:56 PM ^
I just listed every decent or better head coach I could think of...help me out here, I did most of the work.
Check the facts, do you not see that stat about wins versus AP ranked teams?
You're trolling. He's clearly a top 10 coach and does it at Stanford, without the SEC bagman.
You don't have to like him. That's fine, I don't like Dantonio or Meyer, but at least I can admit they're good fucking football coaches.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:56 PM ^
There's another name for you...
September 30th, 2016 at 10:05 PM ^
Not trolling but I'm stuck on 10. He's top 15.
Harbaugh, Saban, Meyer, Fisher, Dantonio, Petrino, Peterson, Malzahn, Sumlin, Fleck.
September 30th, 2016 at 10:13 PM ^
Over Shaw?
Hahaha, okay, I'm done.
Don't smoke crack people, this could be you.
September 30th, 2016 at 10:11 PM ^
Erase Snyder and Bert and I think every name you listed is better + Briles and Miles which would put Shaw in the 15-20 range. (The caveat being you said we didn't have to like them)
September 30th, 2016 at 10:19 PM ^
Your opinion. But there is no way he's below Petrino, IMO...one good year with an amazing QB.
Freeze cheats and still can't win enough to make BCS/Playoff level bowls.
BERT? LOL ...may as well say Butch Jones. (don't say Butch Jones)
Herman and Sumlin are interesting...Herman is obviously hot right now, Sumlin...I don't think he's better than Shaw, but I wouldn't fight you over it.
Herman is hot right now, but Shaw has more wins over ranked teams in his first 5 years than anyone right now. So it's kind of the same thing...Herman also gets to play in the AAC and get his team up for big game. Shaw has had to take on Oregon at it's height, while the rest of the Pac-12 is usually pretty decent...and DEEP (just not this year).
And what has Charlie Strong done to show he's better than Shaw?
Wittingham is the only one I'd add to the #4 to #10 group and that would give you 10. Unless you want to add Brian Kelly, and I'm not willing to add Brian Kelly.

He padded his numbers in a bad C-USA and Big East, but even without that he had 2 great years at Arkansas, one ended up in the BCS.
And now he's off to a hot start at L'ville this year. Every other post C-USA/Big East year has been "average" (I consider 8-4 average and 6-6 a bad year) or terrible as he was building the program.
September 30th, 2016 at 11:34 PM ^
Making up your own list doesn't make anything on it a "stat".
September 30th, 2016 at 9:40 PM ^
Just keeping Stanford at the level he has is an impressive accomplishment itself
September 30th, 2016 at 9:44 PM ^
Everything could've EASILY (and understandably) fallen apart after Jim Harbaugh, and uh, Andrew Luck left.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:36 PM ^
Gosh they BLEW UP that reverse.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:37 PM ^
September 30th, 2016 at 9:37 PM ^
Switched the QB...panic? Or was that what the sideline lady was talking about with someone with blood running down his arm?
September 30th, 2016 at 9:37 PM ^
How the hell did that happen? Ball was fluttering like a wounded duck.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:37 PM ^
David Shaw is one of three coaches with 20 or more wins against AP ranked teams in his first 5 seasons. Can you name the other two? No cheating if you saw the answer earlier in pregame coverage.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:39 PM ^
Jimbo?
September 30th, 2016 at 9:41 PM ^
These two coaches are now retired.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:39 PM ^
Tressel and Pete Carroll?
September 30th, 2016 at 9:42 PM ^
Another hint: one of these coaches did win a Super Bowl but it is not Carroll.

September 30th, 2016 at 9:46 PM ^
This is MF right! I was shocked to see Carr on this list, but people forget how good those late 1990s Michigan teams were.
From @ESPNStatsInfo: David Shaw one of 3 coaches w/ 20+ wins against AP-ranked teams in first 5 seasons at major program (B Switzer, L Carr)

Once it started rolling, yep. Helped that there were a lot of ranked B1G opponents back then, too.
September 30th, 2016 at 9:49 PM ^
That's surprising
September 30th, 2016 at 9:53 PM ^
September 30th, 2016 at 9:42 PM ^
Yet every time they play people in these threads call him overrated.
It blows my mind.
