1971 Sandusky victim says Paterno told him to drop his allegation; six PSU coaches reportedly saw abuse

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on
This is not the same reported victim as the one identified in the 1976 insurance document that referenced a claim that Sandusky had abused a child. There is also evidence that PSU coaches witnessed Sandusky abusing children in 1987 and 1988. EDIT No. 1: The man says Paterno threatened to call the authorities if he didn't drop his claim. EDIT No. 2: NBC reports that six total PSU coaches witnessed Sandusky abusing children from the '70s through the '90s. http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/06/us/jerry-sandusky-victims-paterno-penn-st… http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/sandusky-case-bombshell-did-6-penn-…-

"And I would probably not end up on a jury since I have far too much education. That's a problem with jury selection."

Too much education to be selected for a jury? Arrogant much? Clearly someone who knows nothing about voir dire strategy. What a joke.

although sometimes it is clearly either or. I don't know to whom you are responding, but there are a large number of Americans who actually believe the constitution guarantees a right to be judged by a jury of your peers. I add this because the last time I had to point out the fact it does not was to an attorney's wife. I told her the only place I know this to be a fact is in the Magna Charta and that under our legal system we are granted the right to be judged by a fair and impartial jury. Now her's was a case of arrogance: "I am the wife of an attorney, so of course I would know." It sounds like you hit the combo.

Honest to Christ they have to kill the program.

If the B1G doesn't kick PSU out of the conference,  I think that the other 13 members should leave and start a different conference.

It's absolutely sickening

I thought the evil Demons will be taken care of. But I believed Joe didn't know what was going on so I thought and hoped the program would build back up eventually. Shame on me, this was the whole program covering it up. If there is a death penalty still in sports they better do it. Do I feel somewhat bad for the current players, yes, but the program needs to burn in hell. With joe

I was always of the belief that Paterno knew, didn't want anything to do with it, didn't want his program to burn, and either actively buried it or passively allowed it to be buried. I'm starting to doubt it now. I'm beginning to think that maybe Joe wasn't necessarily "involved", but maybe he didn't mind Sandusky doing what he did. I'm not saying he watched or anything, but maybe Joe thought it was just Jerry's weird idea of a good time and was ok just letting Jerry be Jerry. The only way I can fathom him letting it go for so long is that he didn't see anything wrong with it.

sick, sad, disgusting...I can keep going. Unfortunately this will all be forgotten amongst their fan base and media when PSU hires a new coach and they have a good season again. I think all advertising in and around the stadium should have to be about ending sexual abuse and all football players who chose to attend PSU should have to take part in community service working to end sexual abuse. It would be one way to take this awful history and try to make a lasting positive impact going forward.

years ago, I remember reading a very long post on another forum that made claims that this whole thing went much much deeper than just Sandusky, Paterno and Penn State and that it involved a much wider reaching area that included former pro athletes, businessmen and politicians and possibly the mob from around Penn and New York.  That some of the names involved would "shock you".

There was also a rumor that tried to tie the murder of a Penn. attorney to this.

Starting to believe this is way way bigger than just a PSU thing.

Honestly, none of this really surprises me. Stuff like this does not just happen for decades without people knowing about it and sweeping it under the rug. These individuals acted in fear of the program and, with little doubt, thought Joe Pa would take care of it.

Is it bad that I hope Joe Pa and anyone that knew about the abuse rots in hell? Is it wrong that I  hope nothing but bad things happens to Penn State and their football program?

I'm trying my hardest to be level headed about this whole issue and looking at it if it wasn't Penn State, but Bo Schembechler and Michigan, and I still cannot find a ounce of sympathy for the program or individuals that enabled these crimes over multiple decades.

Does their football program deserve the death penalty? I'm not sure, but I do think they should be booted from the Big Ten. Something needs to happen and I think thats the best solution at this stage.

How long was Larry Johnson on that staff? Schiano? That's two ex-PSU coaches now on the OSU staff. Hope like hell they were not part of this in even the most minute way but with the way this is unfolding anyone associated with that program under Paterno is tainted.

Just hard to imagine working there with Sandusky lurking around and the suspicion of this type of thing floating over his head and other coaches not sensing/hearing/noticing that something wasn't quite right with him. Its so big with that charity and his seeming lack of concern for getting caught that others on that staff and to suspect that this kind of thing was at the very least a possibility.

...called Harbaugh's recruiting tactics "innapropriate." The hypocrisy was commented upon. By everyone. Notably, this is the one topic that OTE's Michigan and MSU fans completely agree upon.

On a more serious note, this news, like everything else related to this topic, is utterly sickening. And so are all the PSU fans and alumni who think Paterno's reputation is more important than the victims of child rape.

I'm disgusted that the Big Ten, knowing the depth and breadth of this story, hasn't booted Penn State.

Membership in the AAU is deemed more important than memebership in humanity, I guess.

As the final, crowning piece of its quest for institutional, academic, and athletic legitimacy, and that PSU used it's football team as the vangard of the effort, makes me ill to have them as a member of the B1G. PSU does not represent the values of the B1G as it covered up horrific crimes to gain admittance.

If true, PSU should shut down its football program. The kids can be released of their commitments without penalty and the college should have to honor all the financial obligations  to the current coaches, BUT SHUT THIS POS PROGRAM DOWN (if true).

I dislike these guys more than OSU.
