#11 Field Hockey demolishes MSU, 5-0 in East Lansing

#11 Michigan (14-3, 7-1 B1G) traveled to East Lansing today to take on a terrible MSU team (5-12, 2-6 B1G).

Despite Michigan having the better program, MSU had beaten Michigan the last two seasons including a game that ultimately cost Michigan the B1G Championship a year ago.

Not again. Never again.

Michigan struck first on a Mackenzie Ellis penalty stroke to go up 1-0 about 5 minutes in.

The rampage was on from there as Michigan scored two goals just 5 minutes apart later on in the first half, one by Carl Bennett on a corner (sister of former Michigan Hockey player Mac Bennett) and one by Emma Way.

Wolverines led 3-0 at half and held a 22-0 shot advantage.

Michigan scored again about 10 minutes into the second half, this time on a Lauren Thomas corner. The Wolverines tacked one on in the final minute for good measure, to complete the demolition.

The Wolverines send Sparty's seniors off with a 5-0 branding on MSU senior day. The largest win by either team in the series since Michigan beat MSU 5-0 back in 1999--the year Michigan was national runner-up.

Michigan is now 38-25-6 against MSU all-time and has won 20 of the last 25 games against MSU.

Michigan hosts Ohio State (9-7, 4-3 B1G) on Saturday at 1pm for senior day in the regular season finale.

Will be a HUGE day. Need to root for Iowa, because if Michigan wins and Iowa beats Maryland, Michigan will win the B1G Championship.

Michigan is locked in as the 2 seed in the B1G Tournament. A narrow 2-1 road loss to Maryland would give them the tiebreaker for the 1 seed, if the scenario mentioned above happens.

Wouldn't we still lose the Big Ten if both Michigan and Maryland finished with one loss? Or is it a scenario in which head to head doesn't matter and there are two winners?

It's going to be while they're still there.

Take away last year when literally Michigan's best players were out for the year and Beilein was forced to play walk ons, and Michigan has won 6 of the last 9.

Even if you include last year, Michigan has still won 6 of the last 11.

An interesting stat in the game, with 11 minutes left Michigan had 32 shots and MSU 0.  We cleared the bench and State got 8 shots all in the fading minutes and we got one more shot.  We scored again on that shot and preserved the shutout.
