'23 FB Recruiting - where the 'croots at?

Seems a bit odd that we haven't landed a 2023 football recruit yet. It's not super surprising given the whole COVID situation and the inability to take visits, attend camps, and get scouted in person. But, looking back, we've typically had someone in the fold by now. Here are the dates for when the first recruit (that actually stuck) committed to Michigan:

2021 - Marlin Klein - 9/20 (15 months out from early signing day)

2020 - Giovanni El-Hadi - 3/19 (21 months out)

2019 - Andre Seldon - 6/18 (18 months out)

2018 - Nolan Rumler - 7/17 (19 months out)

Quarterbacks sometimes commit early, but I haven't heard anything to indicate that Dante Moore (QB) is deciding anytime soon. Amir Herring (OL), Semaj Morgan (WR), and Adam Samaha (K) are local and have some buzz to UM, but nothing announced yet. Any thoughts on some early commit candidates?

Sophomores and Juniors are still getting used to the new reality of going to school, sports, new rules etc. Really hard for some of these kids right now. Things need to settle down. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the new norm for a while with regards to recruitment. Sometimes, sports is the last thing on some of these kids minds. Sad, but it is what it is.

One reason I don't think has been mentioned is the pandemic. Coaches have not seen many of these prospects live in camp, and most don't have a lot of game film due to canceled or shortened seasons from last year. It would be wise to assess prospects during and after the 2021 season to get a better handle on evaluations. And on the other side, a lot of these kids have not been able to make out-of-state visits until this year so they may not know much about programs yet to make a decision.
