I think Matt Ruhle will have Nebraska on the right track once he finds a QB, with possibly California reopened as a recruiting base for them they could have a renaissance.  But you don’t come to these posts for that.

With apologies to Daniel Tosh, Here’s this week’s breakdown.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Here’s Ryan Day’s postgame interview calling out Lou Holtz for his comments. <br><br>Among other things, Holtz said Ohio State better pack a lunch because it’s going to be a whole damn day of work against Notre Dame. <a href="https://t.co/1URgfSurFR">pic.twitter.com/1URgfSurFR</a></p>&mdash; Tom VanHaaren (@TomVH) <a href="https://twitter.com/TomVH/status/1705780786018877540?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 24, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

0-8 seconds NBC reporter asks generic post-game question about Kyle McCord.

8-16 seconds-  Day starts cutting his WWE promo, this was starts with the word toughness, and synonyms 4-5 times.  Honestly, this is where myself and probably 100’s in Michigan and throughout the states did the hand wanking motion and changed the channel.  None of your players are soft individually, everyone of them would put me on the 15 day DL just by bumping into me.

However, you make them soft when you call a jet sweep on 4th and 1.  When you and your fanbase  blame some cold and rain for a loss at Michigan.  When 3rd and 4th  and shorts are passing downs at OSU.  Day has the egotistical coach problem where he not only has to win , but also be the smartest man in the room.  Think Izzo playing Ben Carter over Jaren Jackson vs the Syracuse zone.  If the jet works and it could have worked big, Day has the gutsy genius call.

But it is an emotional game, OSU just won on the last play of the game in a hostile environment, he probably did not know Marcus Freeman was doing his Norman Dale impression*.  If he does the coach thing where they congratulate the other team and compliment them this interview can be salvaged.

16-25 seconds--- Lou Holtz tirade..  My first thought was “Lou Holtz is alive?”  Interesting way to compliment the other team. Nothing like keeping the receipts on an 86 year former coach who just made normal pundit comments like “lunchpail” and physicality of Michigan and Georgia.  I know maybe taboo for a former coach to do it, he was an OSU assistant in 1968, 11 years before Day was born, but if this riles you up so much, his is the reason people think you’re soft as a program.

26-33 seconds— “It’s always been Ohio against the World’ Yes, its always OSU vs the world, those top 3 recruiting classes every year, always the underdog that OSU is.  The elite branding marketing and media coverage. The  Big ten refs that manage to only call one holding penalty on OSU for an entire year.  Also, you happened to be the favorite on the road vs a top 10 team just 3 hours ago. OSU is the only team to lose at home in their last game by 22 points and still placed in the College Football Playoff.

Interlude.  So at this point Day acts like he is going to walk away, and if the SID would have been there he should have been tackling him, but he waits around for the 2nd generic question.

38-45 seconds … Said toughness 2-3 times. And then the bomb.. “We’ve had one bad half in the last couple years.”  If you are watching as a non Michigan OSU fan, the obvious answer is oh he’s talking about Michigan.  But if you’re Michigan or OSU fan,  you have to ask which 2nd half the last 2 years wasn’t bad**?  Which half of football was non bad? What about that Oregon loss in 2021, both those halves ok?  Losing at Minnesota in 2021 in the 1st half, 1st half at Maryland in 2022, tied with Northwestern in 2022 are all these good? If the OSU fanbase accepts these as non bad, your fanbase is more reasonable than ours.  The real thing we discovered is that 1 minute after possibly the best and most likely exciting win of your career, you were thinking about Michigan.

45-60 seconds.  Back to the toughness, then retreats into coach mode; team is a family, great win etc.

*    I want to spend 1000 words on 10 men on the field
** Day confirmed afterwards he was referring to 2021 2nd half at Michigan, which I guess losing 28-3 half at home doesn’t qualify.

The Golden Derby

Corn whiskey unlike bourbon, which only needs to have 51% corn in its mash bill and aged in new charred oak barrels,  needs to have at least 80% corn in its mash bill.  If aged it can be aged in new uncharred or used oak barrels.

This makes the whiskey sweeter.  By being aged in used oak barrels, it usually does not allow the barrel to impart and filter a flavor profile

Basically, by reusing oak barrels, corn whiskey was not designed to be a spirit that betters with age.  It was designed to be cheap whiskey.  Both this year's and last year's Nebraska and Iowa games use it.

Ingredients

1.5 oz corn whiskey
1.5 oz Domaine du Canton -  This is an amazing ginger liqueur great for fall
2 oz Grapefruit juice

Combine the ingredients in mixing glass with ice.  Shake for 30 seconds.  Strain into a old fashioned glass with fresh ice and garnish with a slice of the grapefruit.

I love Domaine and it's such a pretty bottle I keep it on my precious display! Try messing with pureed carrots sometime--definitely advanced mixologist skills required, but you're the MGoCocktail guy!

Hey I have been goofing around with NCAA Football 14 revamped just to see how good old AI is compared to what may come out from EA next year. I simulated the game and it was quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, I can't fully get Michigan's offense and defense since it is from 2013 but I have been able to get close to it.

If anyone wants to watch here is the link. I have done some other games in the top 25 also. Check out the Notre Dame/Duke game. I also did the Ohio State/ND game last week and that was telling as well.

ENJOY!
