Game Day Weather

Welp slim chances for rain last week apparently turned A2 into a bulls eye for it lol, while a few miles away it was dry. Luckily we don't have to worry about rain at all for this game, particularly since this is the Military Appreciation Game! Thank you, THANK YOU, to all those who have served and are serving our country!! Some really cool things happening for the UConn match up - just don't expect the weather to be cool. With a warm front to the north and high pressure to the south we're looking at a toasty and dry afternoon before rain enters the forecast heading into Sunday. Let's go blue!

Tailgating

This is a noon game so you do have to get up and hit the road running! It's a mild start to the day with temperatures near 60 degrees - that's about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year - so you can still get away with that xl iced coffee! We'll see some clouds with the sun coming up a little after 7am and have just a light breeze out of the south. We're into the mid 60s by mid-morning, and continue to warm quickly from there. By 10am we're around 70 with some sunshine, so perfect weather to grill before heading to the game!

Kickoff

This is a good game to get inside a little early! The Special Command Para-Commandos are going to skydive into the stadium and two huge American field flags will be held by military veterans and service members during the national anthem. Also make sure to note the 16 American flags up around the stadium to honor retiring service members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Kickoff will be warm with a temp near 80 degrees! We'll have some clouds but still be seeing some sunshine, and have just a light breeze out of the SW near 10mph (enough to keep leaves and little twigs in constant motion).

Halftime

Sun & clouds continue for the afternoon with temperatures reaching the mid 80s! You're definitely going to need to grab some water for this one! While you're up getting snacks, check out some other neat things around the Big House for the game. There will be an MRAP All Terrain Vehicle, a Field Ambulance, and other interesting Military displays near Gate 10 and by the North scoreboard. Winds will be out of the SW near 15mph (enough to see small branches move) into the 2nd half.

Post-Game

Why not celebrate the win over Connecticut with dinner in downtown? The weather looks great! We're staying warm with temps near 80 by 6pm with a SW wind down to 10mph. We'll still see have some clouds around, but talk about a nice evening to sit on a patio or hit the deck for drinks! Temps fall to around 70 by 10pm before dropping into the 60s for last call. Winds will stay light and southerly with just a few clouds with us by then. Rain chances enter the forecast for Sunday! Three in a row, let's do it! Go blue!!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!

Thank you for years of your quasi-military weather service, Christina!  Your sins of last week are certainly forgiven, as your foe (future weather conditions) is a crafty bastard.

Christina, thank you for doing this every week. I grew up in Flint and love reading your weather update every time. Makes me feel like I’m listening to JR Kirtek again.

Other than the ongoing propaganda for an increasingly unpopular military and future wars (wonder what the Pentagon's budget to counter antiwar sentiment is?), love these.

I grew up in Ann Arbor too, and that's where I got my weirdo anti-war/anti-killing chops, so I appreciate these weather reports as well, especially knowing what the weather is like for the opening kickoff, which I could sometimes hear--as a wall-penetrating roar--from Observatory Lodge, where my dad and I lived while I was in high school.

P.S. I know that our current D president has never seen an American military engagement he didn't like, so perhaps I am sneaking this in under a non-partisan, no tribalism banner. As my wife says, "Jesus don't like killin', no matter what the reason for, and your flag-wavin' don't get you into heaven anymore!" Given that the military is the world's biggest user of fossil fuels, literally fighting oil wars to keep itself fighting, I'm gonna stick my red, white, and blue flag in the ground. . . HERE, hope that removing the country from maw of the death machine will one-day be seen as patriotic.
