Doesn't make any sense, but that's what he's reporting. twitter.com/schadjoe

is as worthless as the rest of the rumors out there. Even if they knew they wanted to fire Miles..which by the way just the other day they were talking about doing what they could to keep him there, why on earth would they wave his buyout while UofM is banging on their door to "talk" to him.  I'd bet money the LSU AD has seen the picures or the UofM jet at BR airport, they know what's going on.

If LSU does wave his buyout, the only logical reason for doing that IMO is to save face. LSU has been a top program for 10 years now, losing their coach to us would have to hurt their pride a bit.

I might add: as an MSU guy, DB's mere pursuit of Miles is very strange to me.

This alleged LSU willingness to assume some of the buyout is even more strange.  If true, it seems to me as though it should be raising more questions in DB's mind.  But DB has not appeared to me to be as sharp as billed.  Not even close, actually.

most prominent things I learned the first time I significantly travelled outside of the country is that seeing yourself from the eyes of an outsider can be quite valuable.

My comment attempts to be similarly valuable (however successfully or not).  I don't think the season MSU had, or the bowl game outcome has anything to do with my comment.  In fact, I'd have observed things the same way had MSU not won a single game.

I also don't think it requires "stones" to make said comment.  First, I don't think mine is a risky sentiment to express, or my aim a questionable one for that matter; second, even if it was, no one on here is accountable for their sentiments, however unpopular or thoughtless because of anonymity (the triumph and the tragedy of message boards).

So in light of all that, I don't understand your response.

We at least agree on that.  However, the comment I was responding to suggested that it required "stones" to question DB's approach here.  I didn't think it did;; I explained why.  You agreed with me.  Cheers.

I read back through to make sure, and as I read it, my comment made mention of neither Miles' success rate nor Nick Saban.  I think you've turned me into a strawman here.  (There are worse things to be I suppose).

The sole basis for the comment is the dubious ethical ship that Miles has captained, which is a consideration/concern shared by many on this board (that is, if I've been capturing sentiments accurately).

Do you have a reason why such ethical concerns are "flat-out-stupid"?

I find it doubtful that Joe Schad knows what he's talking about.  National beat guys do well in professional sports, where everyone is so interconnected, but in the college game, it's the local beat guys that have the connections.

I haven't heard anything about Pinkel from anyone, nor have I heard him saying he was declining any other "opportunities" (or anything vague like that).

Link? Source?

EDIT: Never mind, just saw the link on TigerDroppings to the UM Rivals site. Not sure it's relevant, but I'm glad we at least looked into him, even if he's pushing 60.

Les Miles has very few fans in LSU.  HIs clock management and risk taking doesn't sit well with the fanbase down there.  If they think they can get someone else to take his place quickly that the fans would like more, I don't see why they wouldn't go ahead and let Les go.
