Mike Valenti

This guy is an absolute clown. Did anyone listen to their show at all today? Not only would MSU "probably beat Ohio State in East Lansing," but "Craig Roh can't play," and "Rodriguez simply can't recruit." I can't handle Spartan Media.

I think the best thing about living in a city with public transportation is that there is zero chance of having to listen to some drooling apetard on sports radio...

Simply reverse anything he says or any of his sports picks and you can win every time. I remember him saying state had to win four in a row before he could talk crap after the 2008 game. The guys a joke, he knows nothing about Detroit sports yet alone college football. That station is used when I need a laugh or when I feel like getting pissed off. Its so bad though it hardly works for that.

...when I feel like getting pissed off.

Is it often that you feel the need to get pissed off? Do you wake-up in the morning and tell yourself that you want to be pissed off today so you turn on Mike Valenti?

I am thinking that someone is already pissed off if they want to be pissed off.

Sorry, Just curious.

Don't take it too hard. I just noticed you are UM class of 15? Guessing you are fairly young and new to all this. Valenti is well known to be a ratings-driven hate monger. I'm sure you'll become more familiar with what is new and what is old hat around here as time goes on. Don't run away from the board and congrats on your acceptance to the greatest University in the world. You are about to have the greatest 4 years of your life. As someone who just finished theirs, I envy you. Go Blue.

He's just mad because no one cares about State. 10-1, cant sell out home games and everyone in the national media calls them Sparty. Has anyone else noticed how when ever they bring up MSU Football on the radio no one calls. Sean Beligian who's a State fan has said many times that Sparty doesn't get respect because their own fan base cares more about Michigan losing then MSU winning.

He's just pissed that Sparty has their best season in half a century and will still end up in the Cap One Bowl.

Where they will play either Alabama or LSU and Dantonio will be 0-4 in bowl games.

Why do Michigan fans respond when they hear crap like that on the radio?  Don't people realize that's the way talk radio generally works?  They just say some inane or controversial with the sole purpose of getting people to call in.  Try not to be that person - there's nothing rewarding about being a pavlovian test animal.

Valenti is a tool and water is wet.

He is an intelligent guy. However, he knows how to get callers riled up, especially the less intelligent of our fan base. It also does not help their screener refuses to let intelligent Michigan fans get through.

...Valenti and Foster's show refuses to let *any* intelligent caller get through.  When they were doing their whole speil a few months ago on how the UFC was going to supplant "Major Sport (X)" I called in with some legitimate information that debunked some of their points and they refused to let me on.  They'll only put on the most idiotic fans that disagree with them on anything.  I can disagree with Pat Caputo but I at least respect him as they'll at least get somewhat intelligent fans on who disagree with him and he'll at least try to debate them.

QED, why Valenti is smarter than he sounds. I actually met someone who knows Valenti and tailgates with him in E. Lansing. He is a nice guy. He doesn't actually believe most of the crap he spews. He only does it to increase call volume into the station.

Sparty is having a "once every thirty years" year.  Valenti and other Sparty sycophants will Spartybrag for all it is worth.  And they will get thirty years' worth of mileage out of one good year.  This is really business as usual and shouldn't surprise anyone.

I'm just thankful Sparty isn't good every year.

Which other one was pretty good? 6-7 in 2009 or 7-6 in 2007? Heck, in 2007 Dantonio actually lost to Michigan, so we know it' couldn't have been pretty good.  We may end up 7-6 this year, and some people might say that was to be expected, but not too many are going to call it pretty good.

Compared to 40+ years (with a minor blip here and there) of sub-mediocre seasons, I would call 4 straight bowl seasons is pretty good.

Starting next year, if Indiana makes 4 straight bowls, finishes in the top-4 of the Big10, and shows continual progress in recruiting, I would say they've had some pretty good seasons, wouldn't you? MSU used to be Indiana. 3 out of the past 4 years, they haven't been Indiana. I consider myself a rational fan and know that Big10 championships and Rose Bowl berths will take time to get to, especially given the reputation that MSU has had as a football blunder. For now, I consider 7 and 8 win regular seasons "pretty good". In a couple years, that may change. Call me delusional.

Because if all you've lived through is Williams and John L., I can see that. I mean, it's not all 2010's and Saban's, but I don't see MSU as Indiana at all (even if the Big Ten does). I see them as much more Wisconsin and Iowa, a team that has been and should be in that second tier. Recent history definitely favors the other two teams, but that's all they have is "relatively" recent history.  MSU is at worst a middle of the pack Big Ten team. Indiana is probably the worst program in history now that Northwestern and Wisconsin have become respectable. Certainly a "pretty good" turnaround from what came right before it.  But kinda at the bare minimum of what MSU fans should expect from their school 7-6 SHOULD be a bad year.  and 8-9 wins a a good one.  And this year, just WOW. But then I remember a long Perles run, and a time when MSU was the second best team in the Big Ten (no, I don't go back to Duffy....).

Apologies to all the commenters for not getting to this sooner.

I'll let this one stand since nobody's gotten out of hand, but for future reference, other teams' radio homers are not appropriate for a site about Michigan football, and will be deleted. There's a standing policy during MSU week of no Valenti or Caputo, since they both basically just spend the week trying to bait Michigan fans and we don't want a flame war over college football "analysis" that's no more clever or correct than what your least favorite Facebook friend comes up with to taunt you. Except I have about 300 friends on Facebook, and of those who would make a status update about football, it would 100 percent of the time be more cogent than anything I've ever heard from Valenti.

Since Valenti only talks about Michigan from the perspective of M as a rival for MSU, there's really nothing of value you can learn from him about Michigan football. Standing advice is to not listen to sportsradio in Detroit when he's on, and when interfacing with Spartans compliment them on their good season and fantastic ice cream, and move on.

It's unfortunate that he is in the closest major city to Ann Arbor and uses so much of his radio airtime to rip on his college team's biggest rival rather than, you know, maybe mention the four major pro teams in Detroit once in awhile. But that's how it is. Trying to debate him on this blog is about as useful as a post being like "hey guys, this poster on MLive is saying MSU's the big brother now!"

He doesn't listen to anything anyone says. Just hangs up on them and then continues to express his dumb opinions that nobody cares about. He is so biased it sickens me. For two years I have listened to his show and hardly ever hear good stuff out about Michigan. He is a typical state fan that hates michigan and wants them to lose more then an MSU victory. He's pathetic and should be fired for knowing nothing about sports.

SUCKS.  However I will listen to Karsch and Gater if they are on.  Can anyone answer this ? for me please?  Can it be possible MSU goes to a bowl vs Stanford.  I mean either way Dantonio getting beat by Saban (ex Msu coach) Miles and or Harbaugh (UM players) would be good to watch!

The guy takes everything RR says out of context to try to make him look like an idiot.  He sees nothing positive for UM in the future.  Can't wait til that fuck*r bites his tongue so hard it falls off, and puts his foot so far down his throat that he vomits and chokes on it.

Mike V just riles up Bobby-J from Macomb, and then he calls in and gets all ruped to hell, and then people think that RR has to be fired b/c Mikey V is yelling and White trash Bobby is yelling.

It's ridiculous.  I can't wait until RR shuts everyone up.  Oh, what a sweet day that will be

that I drive home from Plymouth to Dearborn during 2:30-4:00 timeframes, especially on Wed. when I get the choice of Drew Sharp, Valenti or EMU in static hour.  I always lose.....

What do people listen to on the fringe of 1050?

Also, if anyone else is stuck in the same crap timeframe as myself, I'd love to get an arrangement where 20-30 people just call up at the same time and clog their phone lines and pretending to bash Michigan to the screeners before getting through and swearing like crazy.

The day after the Izzo led Spartans, were blown out by the Tar Heels in the Title game. Valenti was amazing in his excuse making. Even Terry in a rare display, called him on it. After listening to his hypocrisy, I wrote him an email thinking his response would be golden.

The Spartans get blown out at home, and people act like it was a badge of honor. "Oh what a gutty performance." If it had been Michigan in that game... your show would have been nothing but how Michigan sucks, and shouldn't have been there. You act like the Spartans were a 16 seeded Oakland University, taking on Jordan and the Bulls. The whole show turns into defending a choke job. An excuse filled show to defend an embarrassment. An embarrassment that was a home game for the Spartans.

Contrast that to when Michigan goes to the Rose Bowl. They get beat by a much better team in USC, who is playing a home game... and you have an entire show on Michigan bashing. State gets crushed, and it's... "Oh it was the worst possible thing that they were playing a home game... the pressure."  The blowout for you and Spartan fans, turns into the 2nd  "Battle of Thermopylae."  Double standard indeed.

I am still waiting on his response.
