Well Jesucristo.

My avatar is an accurate depiction of how I feel reading this.

Out of the current class, how many is that now?
September 17th, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
Recent attrition including non-qualifiers and transfers who originally signed letters of intent for us:
2010 (5 of 27 total - 18.5%) - QB Jones, RB White, LB Rogers, LB Kinard (although we hopefully get him back next year), CB/S Dorsey
2009 (4 of 22 total - 18.2%) - DE Lalota, CB Turner, CB Witty, S Emilien
2008 (8 of 24 total - 33%) - QB Feagin, RB McGuffie, OT O'Neill, G Wermers, LB Hill, LB Witherspoon, CB Cissoko, S Smith
That is 17 of 73 (23.3 %) of the last 3 classes gone, including four 5 stars (Dorsey, Turner, McGuffie, Cissoko - well Dorsey was only a 5 star on ESPN, so I guess that's a more questionable source).
By my count we now have 20 scholarships currently available for next year assuming everyone with fifth year eligibility returns: 11 seniors who finish their eligibility + 9 open scholarships.

What gives?
September 17th, 2010 at 6:19 PM ^
That's the same thing I'm wondering this is getting embarrasing.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:20 PM ^
Speechless, just when this week seemed ok. Good luck to the kid.
Edit : We did lose Lalota this week. Man, I need a vacation.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:23 PM ^
It's like our team went to Camp Crystal Lake and they're getting picked off one at a time.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
Something no longer smells right.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:26 PM ^
The players that are leaving are no longer holdovers from the Lloyd era. Something just isn't right.
September 17th, 2010 at 4:09 PM ^
Put down the drugs man. Or stop drinking it's only 4pm!
September 17th, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
Great. Just fucking great.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:27 PM ^
Definitely. Not. Cool.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:27 PM ^
I am scared to even read UM news after work .. injuries and guys leaving ...im starting to think id rather just watch the games since they have been positive.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:28 PM ^
What the fuck is going on?
September 17th, 2010 at 3:28 PM ^
Those Who Stay Will Be Champions.
Again, it could just be a Freshman getting homesick, even if he is from a town no more than 6 hours from Ann Arbor
September 17th, 2010 at 3:29 PM ^
I forgot where I saw this list, but it was posted a few days ago and listed all the kids who have left in the RR era and where (if anyplace they have ended up). Very few of these kids are playing football at another D-1 school. Outwardly is it disturning, yes. But when you dig a little further, there really isn't that great of a loss in most cases.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:33 PM ^
It probably isn't a big loss as far as the product on the football field but it is still disturbing nonetheless. To think that a kid(s) are leaving a school like Michigan to attend a lesser school (not to mention a lesser caliber football program) is a little disheartening. I can't imagine things ever being so bad in Ann Arbor to make the decision to attend a lesser eductional institution. Maybe the kids just don't understand the power (yes, power) of a Michigan degree?
September 17th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
Well, it's possible that some of these guys aren't really U-M material in the classroom. It may be beneficial for some of them to transfer.
The common thread for most of the departures is that they were academically borderline. RR evidently took some chances on kids in that area. Maybe that was necessary given the past two seasons. A good season this year will hopefully allow us to be more selective down the road.
September 17th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
What I'm thinking.
It's also possible the guys were told that we needed so much, they could compete right away, and many planned on winning out but did not.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:47 PM ^
Realistically, most of the guys who come here to play football don't see UM the way those of us who came for academics see it. Most of them see UM as a football program that also has a good school attached to it, so if the football part doesn't work out, the school isn't enough to keep them around. This is especially true for the guys from poor areas who got less than mediocre grades in high school. They aren't future aerospace engineers or investment bankers, so any college degree is a good thing.
September 18th, 2010 at 6:19 AM ^
It's not reassuring that kids who leave Michigan aren't good enough to play for other big programs.
If kids we recruit have to go to FCS or D-II schools in order to play, I'd say that's a little embarrassing for Rodriguez's recruiting cred.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
a couple of days so that we could keep up our streak of consecutuve weeks of having a player decommit following a victory?
September 17th, 2010 at 3:34 PM ^
Seriously, there's no "i" in transfer.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:39 PM ^
two "i's" in, "I quit"..... ( o ) \ ( o )
September 17th, 2010 at 4:58 PM ^
Or is this some weird reverse psychology thing and we'll actually gain players if we lose? And if we go undefeated, will we end up with 30 additional available scholarships for next year? And what will happen after the Oct. 23 BYE? My mind is blown.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:36 PM ^
If he didn't it shouldn't affect the APR and I remember RR saying earlier he had a clearing house issue. Brian, Tom, Tim or any of the other insiders know if Davion ever got the clearing house issue cleaned up or is the clearing house issue the reason he is no longer with the team?
September 17th, 2010 at 3:39 PM ^
What side of the ball was he on?
September 17th, 2010 at 3:40 PM ^
Defense, projected linebacker or spur with his 6'6'' frame.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:41 PM ^
I don't think it's about him not liking Michigan, I think it's more of the clearinghouse issue that dogged him over the summer.
But still, this is already past old. By no means can we build depth when no one is staying with the program.
September 17th, 2010 at 3:54 PM ^
Maybe I am missing something. Shouldn’t you have your clearinghouse stuff DONE by January of your senior year so this is not an issue?
I am not being judgemental but if you are just scraping by in HS trying to get cleared...which is not hard...then would it not stand to reason that you will just get by at a University like Michigan.
Did our coaches not see this?
September 17th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
A lot of players don't have that atuff done by January of their senior year. And yes, the coaches know this. But sometimes to take a chance on a guy with borderline academics, and the kid ends up qualifying (like Noel Devine, at WVU). Gallon is another guy who almost missed it, but he qualified and I'm glad we have him.
It would be great to only recruit kids with a 3.7 or higher, but then we'd be missing out on a lot of talent. It's a fine line, and sometimes you end up too close and going over a little. It's not the end of the world.

I wish you well Davion, but that this point there is no other way to say it..
September 17th, 2010 at 3:49 PM ^
Seeing all these guys leaving bothers me but I'm equally concerned about how it could affect our relationships with their High Schools.
September 17th, 2010 at 4:03 PM ^
Wow at this rate we won't have team by 2013,
September 17th, 2010 at 4:08 PM ^
He gone. And I consider this to be a big loss for us long term...Lot's of potential there. niow we have to recruit, sign, feed, and develop an equal or better DE/LB prospect. Whoever that ends up being he won't see the field until at least 2012. Meanwhile our talent depleted defense is desperately needs an influx of difference makers.
September 17th, 2010 at 4:16 PM ^
Better Davion Rogers than James Rogers that's for sure
September 17th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
keep your mouth shut you idiot. walk under ladders and break mirrors on your own time.
September 17th, 2010 at 4:29 PM ^
...scholarship for the 2011 class. Hopefully it's used more wisely this time.
September 17th, 2010 at 5:54 PM ^
This is so sad it's almost comical.
September 17th, 2010 at 6:26 PM ^
I know each and every situation is different but do any of these guys realize that when you are a true or redshirt freshman, you might need to sit for a year or two until you get big and strong enough and learn the system? I can see if you have been here for a while and realize that you might not be good enough to play D-1A, but these guys aren't even giving themselves a chance.
September 17th, 2010 at 8:04 PM ^
At least players who couldn't (Vlad and LaLota) crack the depth chart left, and several students with grades issues and one who showed up out of shape (Turner) have left. I was most disappointed about Vlad and JT, but many of these issues will dry up if we can win eight games this year, finished ranked and continue playing exciting football. Because of DR, Michigan is getting more national pub than anyone right now, even Alabama.
When RR gets this ship really rolling, kids won't struggle with qualifying, and kids will know where they stand on the depth chart when they're being recruited. And they sure as hell won't show up out of shape.
September 17th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
I fail to understand how publicity, winning, "rolling" or whatever, will impact eligibility, depth chart, and physical maturity issues.
September 18th, 2010 at 6:21 AM ^
You mean winning will automatically turn freshmen into redshirt juniors who are ready to step into a starting position?
Let's win now, then!
September 17th, 2010 at 9:28 PM ^
that is all.
