Amani Toomer to be guest on Jim Rome is burning today. (updated)
Amani's thoughts:
- Became a member of the media because its a simple transition from football to broadcasting.
- Thinks Giants were'nt on same page last year, very inconsistent running game that needs to be fixed
- VIsited Plaxico in prison and thinks he will be the same player once he gets out.
- Jets not going about their talk the right way. Says only one to back up their talk is Rex Ryan.
- Thinks Randy Moss will have a big year chasing down another contract.
As for his thoughts on Michigan:
- He says Michigans offense is "funny" and that the lack of passing game is a waste.
- Says they cannot beat teams in the Big Ten with this offense
- Says he is a Michigan man so by default he hopes RR has success because that means Michigan is having success.
FWIW in the forum Jim Rome and his guest slammed Michigan saying that they have no shot against Notre Dame because were not big or physical enough. Goes on to say that Kelly has turned ND around in one game. LMAO

He was on the herd earlier today as well.. not sure if it has been posted yet or not. He said he doesn't think Rich Rods offense can work in the Big Ten but said he hopes he succeeds because he wants Michigan to succeed.

Can't say I agree with him. At all. He claims it's because of the weather. He was saying that last year they started out flying high and then when the B10 season rolled around the weather wasn't as nice and it hurt them. I did a rather violent facepalm and nearly careened into a tree on the side of the road. He needs to say things that aren't stupid.

With Denard running the offense it will become more run based, which in the poor weather is what a team would lean on. I completely disagree with Toomer but he was still one of my favorite Wolverines (mainly because I am a Giants fan as well and I got lucky and hung on to him his whole career)

Hopefully he can punch Rome in the face and finish what Jim Evertt started. Rome is a punk and useless to watch.
September 9th, 2010 at 4:48 PM ^
I'm not aware of this Jim Everett fellow you speak of. Now Chrissy Everett I know.. that lady tried punching Rome out.
September 9th, 2010 at 4:47 PM ^
the same thing he said on Herd... doesn't think they'll be successful... because the athletes in the B10 aren't like UConn's and the weather will be a problem... whatever that means.

I'll humor you this once, and say that it was basically the exact same thing that TomVH reported.
September 9th, 2010 at 4:48 PM ^
Well, he says he doesn't like that we can't pass because "there's such a great receiving tradition." He also spews other bullshit before saying he hopes RR does well, because it'll mean UM is doing well. It's pretty obvious he doesn't like RR.
September 9th, 2010 at 4:49 PM ^
who's not happy WR isn't the feature of the offense... blah.. means nothing to me.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:28 PM ^
I'm curious to know how he feels about RR. He didn't have a good relationship with Carr.
EDIT: Eh, sounds like he's down on any offense that isn't pass-first.
September 9th, 2010 at 4:49 PM ^
Amani just said there is no threat of passing in this offense. 19-22 for nearly 200 yards...yeah that's certainly no threat.
I'm not gonna start the "Amani isn't a Michigan Man" bullshit, but c'mon Amani, we had Threet/Sheridan in '08 and freshman last year. Yeah, it's not a pass heavy offense nor is any WR likely to hit the 1,000 yard mark anytime soon, but to say "no threat" is just dumb.
I guess we just gotta keep winning to silence the doubters. I have faith in the team, and people like Amani are allowed to express their concerns, but they need to think their concerns through a little more.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:24 PM ^
Actually, Chris Henry did reach the 1,000-yard plateau at WVU. In this offense, the downfield passing game can be wide open.
September 9th, 2010 at 4:51 PM ^
is on right now.. right after Amani... said Brian Kelly has already fixed Notre Dame and Michigan isn't there.. says Michigan needs it more and ND will win.
He says RR is too much change and his change hasn't work... and won't.
I disagree with everything... I think we got our needed win... 3-1 in the non-conference schedule is okay...
ND can't afford to lose this one.
September 9th, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
Who is this babbling moron who came on after Toomer????
We're not physical and Notre Dame is??? What crack is this guy smokin?
IF I TALK REALLY LOUD AND SPEW NONSENSE PEOPLE WILL CARE. RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RICH ROD SUCKS.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:01 PM ^
In our first week, we had 61 rushes for 287 yards.
In ND's first week (during Kelly's supposed transition into SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL): 36 rushes for 153 yards.
Yep, ND certainly is the more physical team. How could we all be so confident that we're going to win? We're boned, Rich Rod is going to be fired and Michigan is going to be burnt to the ground by the Angry Michigan OMG NO PASSING Hating God.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:03 PM ^
Petros Papadakis...believe it or not, he was actually a USC football captain back in 2000.... still he had no idea what he was talking about.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:01 PM ^
Yes Amani, because West Viginia is 80 degress and sunny year round.

And they got completely embarassed in their bowl game.. Kelly's Defenses have been horrific, we will see how up to par they are on saturday.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
I also love how every fuckin un informed idiot thinks the Big ten is so high and fuckin mighty compared to any kind of spread offense.. ooohh wahhh the big ten players are so big, fast guys will just get hurt every play wahhh.. My god if any more of these idiots spew the same fucking bs over and over again ill blow my own head off.
Must of been wierd when the "small" WVU team shit on a the bigger Oklahoma team in a bowl, back when that OKL team could of stomped any big ten team.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:33 PM ^
Deep breaths.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:21 PM ^
who isn't part of the team swallows that bit about the offense not being a threat through the air. If that happens, we'll have slot ninjas galloping through wide-open fields all year, a la T Rob against UConn.
September 9th, 2010 at 5:34 PM ^
Dear Jim,
September 9th, 2010 at 5:39 PM ^
Seeing as Petros is a USC alum you would expect him to talk up ND this year so that USC/ND isn't the usual talk of how much USC will win by.
I think most of us understand that almost every non-michigan college football fan has been waiting for this era for years and years, they finally get to talk down to what has been a bad string of luck for UM and they are gonna keep hacking away no matter how goofy or uneducated their comments are. just keep winning and they will die away one by one!
September 9th, 2010 at 6:40 PM ^
And he said the same things. Was "not impressed" with M's win over UConn. Thinks RR's offense was "funny", but also that Kelly is a great coach and has success everywhere he's gone.
September 9th, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
I loved your touchdown against OSU when the Buckeye fell. But seriously, your knowledge of college football offenses has much to be desired. The only school that hasn't run a version of RR's spread is USC and Alabama. Florida, Boise St, even Ohio St was running it with Troy Smith. It is about personnel and if Rich ever gets a chance to run his offense with an upperclassmen there will be no doubts.
September 9th, 2010 at 7:18 PM ^
It's another one of those "He said something BAD about my MEECHIGAn, so he's a dum dum and I are smart cuz I read MgoBlog and Scout" threads!
September 9th, 2010 at 8:19 PM ^
Yeah I myself was sick listening to his interview. He knew nothing about the current team and insisted it was a funny offense. Petros though, wow, how dumb and loud can one guy be at the same time. If I recall the last 2 ND coaches had great first years and then crashed and burned over the next few seasons. I don't understand why everyone is on the Kelly bandwagon. They say that he's won every where he's been, well so has RR. His roster with Michigan has been depleted and inexperienced until now. I don't judge RR on his first two years. Sure he has been questionable at times but now that he has most of his guys in place we've seen the results, and they look good, real good.
September 10th, 2010 at 12:29 AM ^
They've both (BK and RR) won everywhere they've gone. That's why they're both great coaches, and they're both going to have successful programs. I would bet serious dollars that UM/ND is going to be a truly marquee matchup in the next 5-10 years.
September 10th, 2010 at 12:52 AM ^
....and the team prove these nay sayers wrong and make them eat their words.
