Karan Higdon considering the NFL Draft?
Obviously, a player needs to weigh all options, but it would really suck for Michigan if Higdon declares. He was one of the few bright spots in this anemic offense. In reading the rest of the article, it sounds like he'll be back but I was surprised he was even considering it to begin with.

there are obviously offensive development issues. How our line cant block against teams like rutgers or cinci is depressing. How our rb's constantly pick the wrong holes and cant pass pro is depressing. How our QB can't make simple progressions and then throw a basic 10-15 yard pass is depressing.
Is the offensive staff actually just really bad at evaluating talent? Hard to tell, the "starz" are there. Development, idk, the line continues to be hot garbage year after year.
So, what's the deal?

We joke about OSU kids declaring, but they will at least get drafted.
Higdon = Donovan Warren
Winovich is going to do the same and Peppers couldn't get out the door fast enough.
/end rant

If there is 1 thing Harbaugh can do, it's get people drafted.

He has shown flashes but I don't think he is ready yet. But then it could just be I want him to return

Definitely needs another year. He might not get drafted this year.

He's not ready. Needs to improve in pass protection. Also, if he gets more touches next year, a potential improvement in the offense would have him in for a big year. Even with the split carries and trash offense this year he did well. He should stay because a big season would get him drafted higher, whereas now he might not even be taken

At least we have AJ Dillon.
Oh wait, we kept midget O'Maury (Povich) Samuels instead.

I think Scott is a really strong RB, but he's had ten times the problems holding onto the ball that Karan has had.

2018 RB class is deep with talent and depth with:
Saquon Barkley
Derrius Guice
Bryce Love
Akrum Wadley
Bo Scarbough
Damien Harris
Nick Chubbs
Sony Michael
Kerryon Johnson
Ronald Jones
Josh Adams
Ito Smith
Myles Gaskin
Royce Freeman
Rashaad Penny
Mark Walton
All of them would get drafted ahead of Higdon.

Would probably make it as a FA onto a team. I think he needs another year and will have to get 1500 yards to move up in the first couple of rounds in the 2019 draft.

Wow... its not like he had a lights out season, or even an all Big 10 season. I don't think he even gets drafted looking at all the back that would go before him.
I think this is a troubling indication of the state of our offense in the locker room. It might be as bad off the field as on.
Is there an offensive version of Don Brown out there? If so, we need to hire him NOW.
Oy Vey.

It was mentioned multiple times last year and the year before. It hasn't gone away. He's improved, but he's also left some yards on the field. I assume he comes back, but I feel like our running game won't take off until Walker is our lead back. He's the only RB on the roster right now who has the size to run between the tackles. Have Chris Evans shed some of the weight he had so he can recapture his speed and throw that guy the football in space. Make him a Theo Riddick type player.

He's got to do what he's got to do. And I honestly wouldn't want to play behind this OL either after they've already gotten two QBs sent to the hospital. I just hope he knows what he's doing if he decides to go. I don't think he's on anyone's draft radar, and you don't want to be in a position where you cut your education short and then proceed not to get drafted at all. Then you're really screwed.
He had a decent season all things considered, but nothing lights out that the league would be looking for. That's not all his fault, but NFL teams won't care. I just can't see him going any higher than the 5th or 6th round (if that). Running backs are a dime a dozen in the league, and unless you're a Saquon Barkley or Ezekiel Elliott type, no one is going to use an early round-pick on a RB. A lot of RBs in the league now are guys that a team took a late round flier on and they were one of the lucky few that panned out.
Good luck to him with whatever he chooses.

...in order to be assured of being drafted:
- Pass protection blocking
- Receiving
- Securing the football
He's been able to demonstrate his running ability and to find holes to run through, but that's not enough.

In another side note, the negativity around everything at some point needs to stop. I get that we are mad and frustrated, but what was extremely telling to me was how pessimistic the fans I sat around yesterday all seemed to be. My wife finally went to her first Michigan game and she commented to me about how negative all the comments were. This was before the meltdown. Score a touchdown and the comment was “about time” and “man do we suck”. Let’s stop being entitled pricks and realize that things aren’t perfect, but none of us are going to stop being fans of Michigan.

Generally you don't declare early for the draft if you're not reasonably sure you will be drafted.

If so, then why not. It's going to be a deep class at RB per NFL talking heads but if he's ready to move on in life that is his decision to make. I don't think another year like the past one will really make much difference in his draft stock.
January 2nd, 2018 at 11:52 AM ^
I think he is probably the best back of the bunch. I will be interesting how this plays out.

Well, you never know their internal family needs. Maybe he has a relative that needs financial support or maybe he has a kid. From the outside it's easy to see he probalby needs another year of college football to improve, but that may not be the only factor in the decision.

Hard to blame him for wanting to GTFO, but can't imagine he'd draw much interest. Seemed like he put the ball on the deck a lot in crunch time.
