Ja'Marr Chase Commit (rumor)

Submitted by Pompano Jack on

It is rumored that Ja"Marr Chase, a receiver out of Rummel has committed to Michigan.  Heard it from a High School coach who coaches in the area.  He is a 4* wide receiver near New Orleans.  Recently decommitted from Florida.  Visited for the game.

Unless a team gets blown out, I don't know if W/L matters as much as we think.  It's not as if they played in the game and lost.  So unless they are a fan, they're not as emotionally invested in the outcome like the rest of us.

Those kids saw a great campus, coaches with NFL experience, and a football team that was just a couple plays and one player (QB) away from beating a Top 10 team.

Oh, in regards to Tyler Friday, he probably liked the work of Hurst and Gary in the middle.  I think the prospect of playing with Gary next year crossed his mind.

Friday is good friends with Gary. That is a huge advantage for us. Plus playing at Michigan with our D-staff. I will be surprised if we don't have the number one defense next year. Of couse i went off subject, but can't wait too see villain and uche. If Solomon picks it up a bit as a sophomore we are so loaded. Faster than this year gentlemen. Ridicously fast!!!!!!.

As far as chase goes, that will be a great pick up. If the QB delivers next year are offense should be lethal and if it is, we never lose. Yes our defense will be that good.

I think our line will be good and look for Hudson to start at one of the Tackle positions. Filiaga is a guard and a very big one, but I could see them using him in Jumbo packages. Ruiz will be playing center.

when the loss involves a top WR recruit watching our offense and realizing he has a great chance of walking in and playing right away next year.

Guys want to play for great programs, but they mostly want to PLAY.   Almost no one on our current WR crop has stood out.  Black looked good but will be coming back from an injury.  No one else really did anything of note.    Anyone coming in has a great shot of cracking the lineup if they light it up in fall camp.

I think the reason that WR would still come to Michigan is because there are zero upper classmen contributing right now.  Perry has a role in the slot, but Crawford and McDoom did nothing to distinguish themselves, Ways and Harris never played, and everyone else is a walk-on or freshman.  If you assume your top 3 next season are DPJ/Black/Perry then you have Collins/Crawford/Martin/McDoom backing them up.  That's barely a 2-deep and three of those guys will either be coming off injuries and/or barely played.

I would take every OL/DL that wants to come and the staff likes, but we need a WR or two in the class.

Speaking of Perry, what happened to him this year??? His fault, QB play or what, he didn't produce like I thought he would. I know he was injured, but man I thought he would be our QB's saftey blanket.

It looked like Speight targeted him a lot but JOK and Peters did not. When targeted by JOK and Peters, throws weren’t always accurate. I would chalk it up to shaky QB play and give him a reprieve this year.

Another observation is Butt, Chesson and Darboh probably freed him up more last year and defenses were able to key on him more this year with a younger set of WR’s on this years team.

Just like Rudock tried to utilize him vs Utah and subsequently stopped because Perry messed up, the non Speight QBs seemed uncomfortable with the option routes.

Plus, Perry had fewer plays this year with the Offense relying on more heavy packages to generate the run game and pass protect.

Fewer play chances x lower QB probablity = significent fewer catches

He missed time with injury too. It felt like a bit of everything op mentioned to me. Speight may not have the arm talent of peters but he was ahead of him on the mental side of things and was the only one able to consistently read an option route, which like you said hurt Perry's numbers. I think Peters will be there next year and this offense will take off and shut up all the people talking shit about pep and drevno being horrible coaches.

My cousin's friend goes to ArchieBishop HS and was in same bathroom as Ja'Marr this morning.  Soimeone asked him where he's going to play college ball and just said "Michigan,  man.  Michigan"

doom-and-gloom scenario with a heavy dose of blaming, but one point that he presented should be worthy of analysis/debate:  which coaches are truly committed to recruiting and do we have an elite recruiting staff?

It "appears" that Pep, Drevno, Brown, Smith and Zordich have limited recruiting production - so it's fair to question the emphasis on NFL experience if it hurts recruiting efforts to the point of falling far behind OSU.

Can someone remind me where the Counterstrike thing came from? I remember some guy here posting about talking to a guy on Counterstrike, but I forget if it was for a recruit or for when we were waiting on Harbaugh. Amazing moment nonetheless.

Asked the same questions a few weeks ago answer for Mgoblog user EGD

A couple years ago, in the waning days before NSD, somebody posted that he had been playing an online video game called "Counterstrike" and that his opponent said he had a friend who would be committing to Michigan. This was deemed so strange as to be plausible, and thus lived on through the cycle. Can't remember who the player was belived to be though.

recruiting commit was confirmed by some guy playing counterstrike with a guy who was a friend of a friend of a recruit.

that is my interpretation of the story from back a few years if I recall

beleive the commit was eventually "fake news"... never got the kid.

Heck yes baby. Recruiting is going to take off now. Receiving core should be stellar next year along with the tight ends and backs. Just hope to get some transfer at QB though. I mean, it would be such a safety valve option. You cant go wrong with it. A guy like Rudock would dominate in a backup role if he had to come in with this team next year. Hell, even as starter but I'd rather see Peters or Caff get the nod. Was hoping Speight would've stayed really. I should've never bashed his bad throws. Sorry Wilton, you were a treat to watch though when you played good. Don't know what you got....tll its gone.

This is good news and therefore I choose to accept it as true without further research or contemplation because, frankly, I need the good news after this weekend.
