Brady Quinn's source says it's in the works.
Thoughts?

I would think this is just a ploy to stop the dumb rumors that he wants to go back to the NFL. Let's be honest, the rumors definately can hurt recruiting. With our young team and the bad luck with injuries, I hear it nearly daily from people (I live in Ohio). I'm sure young recruits hear it too.
Or maybe I'm over thinking it.

Not saying history will repeat, but I seem to recall Cooper getting extended before the game one year and then getting curb stomped.

What. The. Fuck.

You completely biffed that. In no way did I compare Harbaugh to Cooper wrt their coaching. All I said was there once was a similar situation.

Do you think Cooper would have rebuilt the absolute, non-disputable, worst program in the entire NCAA into a yearly Top 20 standard bearer in only 4 years? Do you think Cooper could have taken an NFL trash pile to one Super Bowl and within a muffed punt of a second SB, in only 4 years? I don't...
Cooper was a pretty good coach, but he wasn't in Harbaugh's league.

Football will cease to exist as we know it before Harbaugh leaves. So... sure!
November 21st, 2017 at 3:42 PM ^
Honestly, who the hell else are we going to get that is better? The odds of us pulling that rabbit out of a hat are pretty low.
If Harbaugh wants to coach here for 20 years, I'm all for it. Yeah, we've had a rough year on offense, playing 3 QBs. I wish he had gone to Peters sooner, but so be it.

See above.

then Harbaugh. I would try to sign him to a lifetime contract. I'm sure in a few years that a Harbaugh led Michigan team will be very competitive for the B1G title and reaching the playoffs.

but it flies in the face of the whole meritocracy thing.

I guess we have a different metric for what level of on-the-field achievement "merits" a lifetime contract.
86-36 overall with no conference championships at the P5 level, 1-4 against our main two rivals, and continuing difficulty in winning road games against good opposition doesn't "merit" by itself a lifetime contract. His record certainly merits a continuation of his coaching here, and only an idiot would say that he's not a significantly better coach than the previous two guys were.
Do I really care beyond argument's sake if he got a lifetime contract? Nope.

Beat OSU and we will talk.
November 21st, 2017 at 4:04 PM ^
I doubt it's a "lifetime" contract, even if he is undergoing some kind of contract negotiation. But if he goes and beats OSU on Saturday it's all good in my book.

Is reason alone. It wasn't like Hoke brought swagger to the Big House. Give him a lifetime contract and the Keys to Ann Arbor.

I feel like I have been branded an anti-Harbaughist, and I'm not. A lifetime contract would be awesome for Michigan and I'd love to see it done. I don't live in CFB teritory, but pretty much any non-M CFB fan always brings up the "what happens when Harbaugh leaves" line and a lifetime contract would stop that.
We were not very good during the end of Lloyd, RR or Hoke and Harbaugh is pretty much the only guy that can bring us back (although I'd love to see some cohesion on O).

I believe Harbaugh will succeed here for many years to come. Nothing is guaranteed though and many well thought of people have gone off the rails for reasons that were completely unexpected. It’s the same reason it’s generally a bad idea to build statues of people while they are still alive

I love this whole thing because it forces the fools who have been drawing their "unacceptable" sidearms since MSU, to confront reality. The same ones comparing him unfavorably to this coach and that coach using false equivalences so varied and pointless, it confounds.
Realities like he's by far the best coach Michigan could ever pull. And the reality that he's the only one the school should want. And the final reality that he is doing an amazing job with a lousy hand and a young team.
And besides all that, it's inarguably a shrewd move by the school and for the program.
It makes the whining look even whinier.

You people have lost your minds. Just plant another money tree next to Michigan Stadium? Can we beat OSU first?
November 21st, 2017 at 5:07 PM ^
November 21st, 2017 at 5:24 PM ^
Wow. I'll be that guy. FUCK NO! Some of you have lost your minds. You want him here until he retires? Great. So do I. ------ If the results warrant it. They don't yet.
It's a gimmick anyway but do we need any more gimmicks? I know I am not the only one who is thinking and/or saying enough with the gimmicks. Get some results first. FFS, beat your rivals first before doing the ablsoule most Michigan thing ever, giving a coach a lifetime contract who hasn't even won his own fucking division yet.
Binding or not, that reeks of desperation on both sides.

Harbaugh. One contract at a time (and not a lifetime one). Just like every other coach and school has done for decades.
A meritocracy. Not a tenured position.

It does when your name is Alabama.
It will at Michigan. Give it time, building a piipeline and rolling program-experienced and conditioned kids takes time.

Because Saban was already in the NFL and wasn't very good. 3 of JH's NFL seasons were championship caliber.

I thought it pretty much went without saying , this is his job until he determines he doesnt want it anymore .
