Chris Balas on Brandon Peters: "There are recruiting mistakes, and this appears to have been a big one."
October 15th, 2017 at 12:18 PM ^
I just don't get it. Speight has never looked like O'Korn did in the Purdue game. John has the possibility of lighting up a defense in a close game or coming from behind. I guess it takes the stars to align for that to happen maybe but Speight doesn't ever even come close to sniffing that idea. That's the facts and don't forget it. O'Korn has fire and can gain momentum at times. Speight just cashes it in.

against Nebraska.
Young QBs who aren't ready CAN cause unmitigated disaster, as well as get themselves hurt.

Get someone above is calling for Malzone. And people upvoted it.
What's the difference?
Morris is basically Peters in terms of ratings. Malzone is basically Bellamy.

Its true that Bellamy wasn't ready to play, and shouldn't have ever been recruited to Michigan to start with. But don't place all of the blame for that Nebraska debacle on him. The entire team lost its collective heart when DRob left the game. Those first 10 plays were a comedy of errors from his teammates. There were missed blocks, bad routes, dropped passes, and NO effort to make anything happen. Bellamy's first several passes were okay. His teammates screwed him over before he got gunshy and gave up, like his teammates had already done.
A lot of games that both Rich Rod and Hoke coached are highlighted by a team that quit. We won't see that bullshit with Harbaugh calling the shots. So lets stop reminiscing about that shit, and stop berating players that had no decent coaching for 10 years.
October 15th, 2017 at 10:37 AM ^
Thats on Hoke, those players AND Bellamy, who was supposed to be the leader out there.
Your're a shitty fan and far more disrepectful ot Okorn than many have been around here, excepting WarDog so I wouldn't run my mouth about berating players if I were you.
And about that coaching, who's been coaching these QBs for the past 3 years?

play. How bad could he be? I wonder if there was some reason why he was not playing. Fake ID thing? He should be decent enough for garbage time except we haven't had any garbage time yet this season.

Or making reads. O'Korn can spin the ball too. It's his decision making that has been bad. I'm willing to try Peters, but he's still a redshirt freshman. Obviously Balas has more inside info than I do but it seems insane to say Peters is a bust already unless there are some major attitude issues and he's got one foot out the door already.

but i imagine calling a student athlete weak-minded or speculating about having a bad attitude with no facts is more than enough reason to get negged.
In the future i'd go with "trouble mastering a complex offense" & "unknown personal issues" .
October 15th, 2017 at 7:39 AM ^
The coaches try to flip a ready now QB already commited to another program? Personally I do not agree, or think Balas has any clue what he is talking about. I have been to multiple practices and had good friends in Rome with the team. All of them say the same things: Peters is far and away the best talent at QB, best arm, and very athletic.
Fields, or Lawerence Or maybe UCLA loses 5 more and DTR?
I believe in this team. I also think there will be some coaching changes at the end of the season. I think our WR core will only get better with time and our offense will be better next season. If next year we roll out: Speight > DMac > Peters , I would assume Peters will transfer which is why I would not be surprised if we look to add one more or a grad transfer. Go Blue!

I keep hearing he's the most talented QB on the roster, so if thats true why isn't he out there? QB play cannot get worse than it already is.

dental school when he was like 19, finished his Michigan undergrad previous to that. Didn't even choose him for that, his office was on my plan, find out when I started talking to him. Outstanding dentist.

It isn't an offense for freshmen. The goal is to build experience with depth, so when the QB (or OL, or whoever) leaves, a junior steps in without missing a beat. The same way Bama does it... But you have to get there, first.

October 15th, 2017 at 11:58 AM ^
Alabama does not do what you just described. They have played many freshman QBs, including Jalen Hurts last year as a freshman. And their offense isn't that complicated either.
October 15th, 2017 at 8:59 AM ^
October 15th, 2017 at 8:00 AM ^
This is a terrible excuse. If your offense is so complicated that it means you can't get your best players on the field then I'd say you need to change your offense. Secondly what exactly is JOK running that is too complcated for Brandon Peters? They had 58 passing yards yesterday. He spent all day locking onto his WR's, having no pocket presence, and not being able to read the defense. And here's the scary thought, both Wilton and JOK are in their third year in the system. The fact that they have both been so bad this year tells me there is something wrong with the coaching.

If our offense is too complicated for our younger QBs to learn and run, then we'll always have a serious problem when our QB graduates or gets injured. Run a less complicated offense.
