Indiana Roll Call
Despite last Saturday's result, I'm still looking forward to heading to Bloomington this weekend with my wife and half of my kids.
Before the game, we'll be accompanying our 11th grade son on a campus tour...as we are in the early stages of the process of visiting, exploring and considering various non-Michigan options. (Yes, you can all look forward to seeing his commitment video about 15-18 months from now.)
Due to Indiana's homecoming (and last-minute planning), we aren't staying in Bloomington. But, we are making lemonade out of lemons and staying in Columbus, IN, which we discovered is a mecca for mid-century modern architecture...which has become a passion for us. We've been to many FLW homes and are excited to visit a Saarinen-designed one tomorrow in Columbus.
Plus, it looks as though we are going to have perfect weather this weekend!
Who is else is going to Bloomington? What do you have planned?
Go Blue!

Heading over there with Dad and my siblings for his birthday. He said IU is the last traditional Big Ten stadium he hasn't been to. Hopefully the four of us can bring home a W. Just an in-and-out trip for us, as all of our SO's will be waiting at Mom's house prepping a fancy meal and bonfire for Saturday night.
Can anyone recommend a park area that allows for a quick trip out of town after the game?
October 12th, 2017 at 11:51 AM ^
Sure. There is Bryan Park, Fairfax State Recreation Park, Flatwoods Park, and many others.

to visit family after the eclipse, there was a lot of construction in/out of bloomington on those small highways, so you may want to check their state DOT website before you head down to plan out an alternate route out of town as well...

The only way you are getting in and out of that town quickly on a football Saturday is via helicopter.

Driving there tomorrow after work from Chicago. Booked a cheap-ish Airbnb back in July for Friday night, so should be able to do plenty in the morning before the game.
Really not sure what we'll do, but probably wake up as early as possible, go to one of the breakfast spots from the other post, then hit up the bars a little before and after the game. No rush to get back, so we'll probably wait for traffic to clear before heading back.

And we are taking the bottom half. They're much quieter that way.

I had been planning on going with my dad since we only live 1.5 hours away and that is always the easiest game for us to get to, but due to his recent travel schedule we decided not to go. We always enjoy that trip and seeing all of the UM fans take over the stadium, so everyone going have a good time! Go blue!

Which half of the kids are you taking?

The lots off of 45/46 are the easiest to leave from. I believe it is gate 10 and gate 11.

We had planned on our entire family of four going to the game.
Daughter is still on the Bar/Bat Mitzvah circuit...and didn't want to miss one to which she was invited this weekend. "Daddy, I have FOMO!"
Fortunately, the parents of one of her friends generously offered to house her for the weekend.

Making the drive from Minnesota to Bloomington on Friday. Our AirBnB in Bloomington cancelled on us on Monday, so we had to resort to one in Indianapolis. Hopefully we will still be able to get in some tailgating on Saturday morning.

It is a service through which people rent out private residences. There are 4 of us, so we were able to rent a whole house, which is considerably larger than a single hotel room and considerably cheaper than two hotel rooms.

AirBnB is my preferred method of lodging when I travel. Best way to get off the beaten path and experience the place you're visiting. You should check it out.

with wife & friends, one of whom is an IU grad. First visit to Bloomington. Will stop for lunch at the Nashville House on the way over & check out the bars Friday night. Saturday morning may crash a friend's son's frat party, then cheer the mighty Wolves to a big W!
October 12th, 2017 at 12:03 PM ^
Who in the hot fuck are the Wolves?
October 12th, 2017 at 1:35 PM ^
Short for Wolverines!
October 12th, 2017 at 3:44 PM ^
Nope. That is not a thing that anyone who has been a Michigan fan for more than 30 seconds says. And if you yell "Go Big Blue" you deserve to have a bottle of water thrown at your head.

I will be watching the first half on the WatchESP app on my way home from Strongsville, daughters game is at 11am. Same situation as Purdue, hoping for same results!

that I won't be making the game in Bloomington. I'm 35 now, so I had a good run.
I'll be watching the game from a Big 10 bar in Savannah.
October 12th, 2017 at 12:16 PM ^
I'll be there flying solo, no major plans since I have to be back in Terre Haute for a wedding by 5:15. Hopefully it's not the two OT game like it was 2 years ago!!

doing road construction down there? Might want to warn some people. That drive home two years ago was a nightmare.
October 12th, 2017 at 12:56 PM ^
Affirmative on the road construction. I would suggest a long post-game celly, unless, of course you enjoy going bat-shit crazy while sitting in a stationary vehicle. Your call.

I'll die, be reincarnated as a silverback gorilla and die again before they finish that god damn construction.

She was raised maize & blue, but graduated fro the I.U. Law School and he is a graduate of the I.U. Kelly School of Business. The Bible says "raise up a child in the way they should go and even when they are old they will not turn from it". Here's hoping that sticks and she wears the correct colors.

Section 109, Row 18
I live in Southern Indiana and recommend the tailgating fields south of the stadium. Great place to park, hangout and tailgate.
For an easy exit, head south to 3rd street, then head east to Hwy 46 to get back to I-65.
GO BLUE!

I'm on mapquest right now trying to plot my way back to columbus,oh after the game. It's showing 3 different construction zones on the route you suggest but none on 37 north. Is this accurate?
October 12th, 2017 at 2:07 PM ^
Also looking at getting back to central Ohio... the INDOT webpage has one minor construction project on 37. Most of the work in Monroe County is on I-69, south of town.
Mostly I just want someone to tell me that it will all be okay.
October 12th, 2017 at 5:17 PM ^
Take another look. If you hover over the construction icon on the indot page it actually expands out & shows you how far the construction zone spans.
It looks like it goes from Bloomington to halfway to Indianapolis. I'm going to avoid it like the plague. I'll be taking The Chad's advice.

I guess I could have said, "a city named Columbus" but I thought that would be pretty obvious.
October 12th, 2017 at 7:54 PM ^
anyone staying into Sunday - Columbus has a very nice public golf course Otter Creek. A RTJ creation from 1964 ... has held many statewide tournaments.
And yes ... I'll be there - can't remember the last one I missed @ IU.
