Two UF freshmen busted for weed in the dorms
http://www.firstcoastnews.com/sports/college/florida-gators/two-uf-foot…
Ventrell Miller and James Robinson. Miller was already suspended for the credit card scam (!) and Robinson is a highly rated freshman WR (.9458 247 composite, 115th ranked overall) who was also cited for marijuana posession on his OSU official visit. Couple of real winners there.

are you 43 years old?
August 24th, 2017 at 4:34 PM ^
That was me - and no I didn't hook up on the night in question.

I felt the same way about Richt and think McElwain may be doing the same. Still, how can you run a program when you keep giving guys chance after chance? Without accountability, kids being kids can be stretched into something much more dangerous. Plus, a head coach should probably focus more on the guys not in trouble and coaching than lessons in redemption and 2nd and 3rd chances.

One of their QB's need to spark up. Make that roster decision a little easier for Jethro.

Or Malik Zaire can plant some stuff in Del Rio's and Franks's lockers. Boom, problem solved.

Why marijuana isn't legal is beyond my comprehension. I don't even smoke it very often. MAYBE once a year. Being drunk is worse than stoned.
August 24th, 2017 at 2:47 PM ^
That's all fine and dandy, but the first dude was already involved with credit card fraud, and the second guy clearly has a habitual problem which is moments away from ending his football career.
No surpirises that you didn't take the larger scope into account before firing off your anecdotal experience, though.
August 24th, 2017 at 2:56 PM ^
How about fuck off? Yes, I did think of that. I even read it in the OP. I was just making a statement about how marijuana should be legal. Calm the fuck down.

Thy name is UM Fan from Sydney.
August 24th, 2017 at 3:17 PM ^
It is legal actually, in California, Washington, Alaska and Colorado. It should be treated the same as alcohol, enjoy it and stay safe.
August 24th, 2017 at 3:18 PM ^
Yes, I am aware in which states it is legal. I'm saying it should be legal nationwide. Thank you, though.

Yet, the law is the law and we are (theoretically) supposed to toe the line until said law is changed to something else. I don't have a lot of softness for those busted smoking weed. We all know the law, and we all chose to take risks that are worth it for us. You lose that bet, take your punishment like a man.

We're going to have to get on the same page as a society on whether or not weed is a big deal. I personally don't need it and have never tried it and feel you're probably better off if you never touch it. But if we're going to start legalizing it state by state, I don't blame kids for thinking it's no big deal and getting lax with how they handle the stuff. Then to get all huffy to find it in dorm rooms... One way or the other please.
August 24th, 2017 at 2:49 PM ^
Legalization of pot is one thing, but any compliance/athletic department worth its salt is going to inform all their scholarship athletes that violating the law, school's substance abuse policy, etc. can be grounds for suspension or even dismissal. It's not as if these guys got confused about whether or not it was okay to break Florida law and school policies because it's legal in Washington and Colorado (and wherever else).

Football players should be smoking Marijuana at least for the medical benefits. It's been pretty well docuented that it helps relieve pain, I don't get why the NFL and NCAA is so against it, at least in states that have legalized it for medicinal or recreational use. Let's be real, Football is a tough sport, if it helps the players feel better without any performance enhancing benefits, it should be allowed.

Budweiser and affiliated distributors are like the mafia. They have a shit ton of power in many areas of our current economy.
August 24th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
I don't smoke, but the fact that weed is illegal is stupid. That said, it's really easy to smoke and get away with it, if you want to. I see kids getting busted for weed in the dorms as more of a failed intelligence test than some kind of moral issue.

So, is it too early to roll out the statement, "Jim McElwain has lost control of fucking this fucking shark?"
I mean, clearly the SEC East nees another Mark Richt that everyone can point to and blame for various things, right?
August 24th, 2017 at 3:07 PM ^
James Robinson really has some balls for a freshman. Unfortunately, does not appear to have the brains to match.
