Florida's Callaway reaches plea deal
Plea deal reached between Callaway and State Attorney. Now MCElwain needs to make his decision.

How many sharks did he have to hump to get it?
I mean the underlying issue here is so deeply insignificant that if they want to schedule the plea to avoid disrupting his football season, I'm fine with it.
Don't make this about pot. The underlying issue is that he can't follow Florida law or team rules. Repeat violations should warrant a suspension.
Yeah forget the pot, what about the fact that he is hanging out with a 40 year old dude with a record??
Gainesville has certainly seen far worse crimes committed by student athletes get swept under the rug.
I don't know much about the Grant Perry situation...can someone tell me if I can still ride my high horse or should I just move along quietly?
To be fair about the "Grant Perry situation," Perry did miss a bowl game and a trip to Europe. Callaway's road has been similar; he was found "not responsible" for an alleged sexual assault during a Title IX investigation.
If it was just about smoking pot, I think a bunch of stadium steps and gassers would be appropriate. I am going to trust their coach's judgment here.
As far as the real reason a lot of people want to see him suspended, I don't think one WR is going to make a difference in this game. At least not Antonio Callaway. When the game is over, I think many of us are going to wonder what we were scared about going into this game.
I think Michigan's rebuilt OL and defense are going to neutralize everything Florida tries to do on both sides of the ball.
Bring it on, Gators. With or without Callaway.
Perry was suspended for multiple games, including a bowl game, and from the Italy trip. It was also a first offense and the more serious charges charges were dropped because no witnesses corroborated the victim's story. That doesn't justify what he did - but don't act like he wasn't punished or that there's anybody on a high horse over it.
Grant Perry tried to put his hands down a girl's pants while standing in line at a bar.
Where did you get that from ? And if you know so much, what were the cirumstances ? Did he know the girl ? Was there any reason he would think that is ok ?
Police report said they were face to face and he grabbed her ass with both hands for 3 to 4 seconds and his hands touched her crotch while doing so. Not that it makes it any better, but the hands down the pants was never even alleged.
And no he didn't know the girl. They were in a line for a bar, and Grant tried cutting in line and it started a whole commotion. FWIW, Perry denied grabbing her and the charge was dropped.
This is an accurate retelling of the police report. It's an interesting report in that, unlike most sexual assault cases, there were a shit-ton of witnesses there (it was a line waiting to get into an E. Lansing bar). From what I recall, there were no corroborating witnesses, which - given how long the woman claims the grabbing took - is really weird.
A quick grab of someone's ass is something that you might miss as a casual witness. 3-4 seconds is a pretty long time, especially since there was a commotion already about Perry supposedly looking to cut into the line. And grabbing with both hands? I'm not sure how others would have missed that.
Whether Perry touched the woman inappropriately I don't know, but it is weird that seemingly nobody backed up the accuser's version of the story. It's not a secluded area allegation.
So yeah - not good to ever get in those situations. And I'd bet a Coke that Perry did try to cut in line in enemy territory, and acted like an ass in doing so. So the punishment seems proportionate to the offense.
I guess we'll see him on Sept. 2. I bet he sits 1 quarter the following week against Northern Colorado.

His punishment will be catching sharks to hump
So far Florida can't prove that they have one of those.
True, but I'd prefer not to have to punt to him.
Game 1 starter!!!
hopefully he's not suspended. don't want to hear any excuses for why we win this game and/or for the legitmacy of our resume if one of their top playmakers is out.
Callaway would probably be the best receiver we face this year? Cobbs and Westbrook from Indiana maybe, Blacknall or Hamilton from PSU could be good, I'm not even sure after that. Jazz Peavy? Callaway is the only WR on our schedule that is All-SEC caliber, IMO. Florida is also the best receiver position group we will face.
It would be nice if the best receiver group our secondary faced all year was in a win in the first game. A little baptism by fire and then a lot of growing up before we get to Happy Valley. If we can hold these receivers in check we will have a very nice season.
