OT: Mike Valenti Auditioning for WFAN Job This Week, Might Leave Detroit
97.1's Mike Valenti is doing an on-air audition at WFAN in New York this week, looking to replace Mike Francesca. He's on the air today, Thursday and Friday.
Please God, make it so.

he's like a RCMB poster on the air - good riddance
He's a blowhard. Perfect for New York. .

I think Terry said it best.
Mannnn, I was just about to post this.
Speaking of WFAN, I'm looking forward to the 30 for 30 on Mike and the Mad Dog tomorrow night. Loved that show as a kid growing up in Northern NJ.
me too. i grew up in manhattan and listened to fatso and fruit loops for years. i love how sour shoes, (mike from mahopac), still calls in to prank them.
I actually listen to him from time to time, just because my son is addicted to sports news. He is the biggest know-it-all sack of shit I've ever heard speak publicly before. And it isn't because of his MSU fandom that I hate him; he's even pretty much a dick to MSU fans...
I love it. the average super-sports fan (Mgoblog being way above average of course) is an imbecile and it's fun to hear him tell them they are stupid. MSU, UM, whoever. So many embarrassments in every fan base.
and he's turned up his Douchebag Level to 11. He's also cranked the New York accent WAAAAAY up.
WWWWAAAAAYYYYYYY up...But I like what he is doing. I think he is gone when Francesca's contract is uo
New York would eat him alive. Think Bernie Smilovitz 2.0.
I am surprised Valenti's schtick has worked in Detroit.
Agreed I CANNOT and do not listen to 97.1 when he's on strictly because I start screaming at my radio......and yet the number of MICHIGAN fans that I hear say, "he makes good points" or "he knows his stuff" is absolutely maddening.
Anyone telling you that, Michigan fan or not, is trying to get a rise out of you. Any other reason is incomprehensible.
He makes good points...seriously
What I like about Mike is that he is a contrarian and brings opinions that generally go against the mainstream. Furthermore, I view him as a very principled/logical operator. He is a homer, but if something isn't logical, he will go against it...MSU or not.
And lastly, Reger or Wojo or whatever walking hottake artist they bring in, it will be the same crap...Do you trade Fulmer? or not?... Is the roof on the new arena stupid...lets chat about it for the next four hours...
IMO, his sports knowledge is really bad but he's an entertaining personality. Sometimes you'll agree with him, and often you won't, but he's a generally funny/entertaining guy.
with him. Even though I hate his UM and Spartan takes, I think he is actually pretty good at his job. and the ratings agree with that, as he's far and away the highest rated show. And it wasn't Foster that did that, because Foster was, not good.
haha - you win. So true.
just like the sparts ...
wut?
Valenti would not have his Michigan State/Michigan schtick to fall back on in Manhattan as nobody would give two shits about his Wolverine trolling in the Big Apple
College football gets almost no coverage in NY/East Coast sportstalk. They consider a cute thing folks do in flyover states, like cow-tipping or sipping lemonade by the ol' swimming hole.
Valenti will need to memorize the Knicks/Yankees/Mets/Giants/Jets/Rangers rosters and get really angry at people from Connecticutt and RI for liking the Red Sox/Pats/B's and C's.
...the Celtics. Interesting how that will work.
Yeah. That's gonna be a tough one at WFAN.
What a fucking loser.
don't send your garbage to us, michiganders
I know - he's from my home town. Same HS and everything.
You took him in in the 1st place. If I were you, I'd blame MSU admissions
I find it ironic that he is looking to bail while his college program has spiraled into a dumpster fire. He thirved on being the douchbag while Mark D'Antony rolled Rich Rod and Hoke. Now that things have drastically changed, the gig is over, time to get out of Dodge (or Detroit in this case).
Good Luck on your audition, hope you get the gig and let me help you kick your ass out the door on your way back to NY.......
The dude rips MSU football appropriately when they suck. He could not be more down on them.
I know I am supposed to dislike the guy as a Michigan fan, but I don't. He's the most entertaining guy on the market right now for 97.1. If he goes, that would open the door wide for another station to put their claws into the Detroit market.
For someone who likes to put on the radio for my car ride home, he's entertaining. It is what it is. No one on that station comes close to his level of talent.
WFAN with TuneIn, and he's on the air right now. I'm absolutely blown away, this is so weird to listen to.
I like him and he hope he doesn't go.
When people say he's not talented.
He's the most talented radio host in Michigan right now, and it is not even close.
Liking him is one thing, and that is completely unrelated to his ability.
Agreed. Anyone who says he isn't talented doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. He is annoying but he knows the craft well and he wouldn't be on air in NYC right now if he didn't have that reputation. Francesa's salary was around $800,000 if I recall correctly so if he gets the job you gotta admit that's about as successful as one is going to get in that industry.
...doesn't go with Rieger as part of an afternoon team. The man is TOTALLY unlistenable. UGH...
My suggestion, which will never happen, would be to team Rico Beard with Sam Webb. They can talk intelligently about a variety of sports but the Michigan/State angle would be special.
Were a great listen on 105.1.
That station as a whole had a lot of enjoyable pairings. The powers that be assumed they could overtake the market in like 2 years and had the patience of a poodle.
Agree. I won't listen to the station when Riger is on the air.
& skewers Michigan & their fans every chance he gets. I don't care how big of a raise he gets, just gtfo.
