Bring back The Victors Waltz at the end of games?
Remember this song that used to play after the clock read 0:00 and we won the game?
It disappeared after the 2009 season for some reason. Nostalgic feels every time I hear it, and apparently a lot of people on twitter agree because since I posted a video of it the tweet got almost 100 likes.
It's been 7 years since the @umichband abandoned The Victors Waltz

Please bring it back! Childhood memories. Listen pic.twitter.com/UdwkO8WgJe
Prefer the original. We have the best fight song in the universe--no need to change the tempo or anything else about it.
It's not replacing anything..........the band played this after wins for years.

Haven't been to a live game in years. But I used to like the waltz and then the transition to the regular Victors. It was like going from lowercase yay to uppercase YAY!
Did not suggest replacing anything, nor did I state that my opinion was tradition. I just prefer the original. I don't hate the Waltz or even have a strong opinon about it. I just prefer the original and don't need to hear the Waltz at all.
They play the original in those days just as many times as they do now, the Waltz was just an added thing they played right before going into the Victors. You only said you prefer the original which, no shit Sherlock, we all prefer the original Victors but that is neither here nor there in regards to the topic at hand, bringing back the Waltz.
Logged in to say: yes, please. The first memory that comes to mind when I hear waltzy-Victors is Chad Henne tripping over the goal post on his way to the locker room after the '07 MSU comeback in true water buffalo fashion.
Thanks for sharing that video. That's hilarious. I was at the game and never saw this. I so wish there was a camera view from the opposite direction.

Does anyone know anyone in the band? The Band Director or Band Alumni? Let's make this a thing.
If enough people make their voice heard, they will at least listen to it.
If there's one thing I've learned about the band administration over the years, if you're an outsider who thinks they're doing something wrong, you obviously don't understand what you're talking about, but thanks for the input. Th oft-repeated mantra was "the Band doesn't take requests."* The Victors Waltz is dead.
*Except for that one time they took money from some tailgate in the Blue Lot to have us stop an extra time on the way to the stadium. But I digress.
I know someone in the current band and they told me what I just said above.
Someone will read it if I present it to them. Was given the contact info for who it needs to go to.
Worth a try.
Wasn't Blues Brothers played at football games because fans requested it?
Eric Becher started the Blues Brothers as a pregame feature. It was the formation where the entire band is in concentric circles in about a 10 yard diameter. A few years later they wanted to find something similar to Wisconsin's Jump Around and OSU's Hang on Sloopy to play just prior to the fourth quarter. Blues Brothers fit the bill and has been played ever since.
Truth right here.
Haven't made it to a game in a while- couldn't place when they stopped playing it
In favor of bringing this back, and less piped in music. This has been the opinion of a 30 year old who likes tradition like a 70 year old.
Short answer: Yes, with an "if."
Long answer: No, with a "but."
Even though it's from an episode with dozens of memorable gags and quotes, this one always stuck out to me.
I'd settle for Taio Cruz Dynamite or whatever it was called.
sure why not

No. Always hated it. Just play "The Victors" the way God intended.
I'm sorry you feel that way, Carl. Do you have any recollection as to why Dr. Boerma had the band stop playing it?
From what I can recall, we weren't winning a lot so when we did win, there weren't a lot of people who had it memorized so it sounded sloppy. Add that to the fact that the song wasn't that big of a tradition and it didn't feel right playing a slow song right after an exciting victory. I remember Boerma asking the band if we wanted to keep playing it after wins and he got back a resounding "NO".
That's fair. I don't think it would hurt to ask the current band members their feelings on the matter though.
I'm in this camp. Never got it, nor did most of the stadium.
Yes! I always felt that the Victors Waltz was a big "ha ha!" to the opposing team. As if they didn't hear The Victors enough, here it is in a bouncy, taunting style.
Love it and miss it. It was a perfect dose of swagger right after a big win. And launching right into the 4/4 version right after that was a great exclamation point.

I'm to the Victors Polka, but okay.
Well, WD did say that this site went up in smoke without him. His actual words! So in his world, 100 likes is HUUUGGGGEEEEE!!!
Don't neg. You know in the back of your mind you were all thinking this.
What about the Hail and Unite "pump up" song. Gawd I miss that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what I was wondering!!! The Alma Mater was always played after games, also. Is it still played, or was that dropped, also?
