LB Ellis Brooks not visiting
On Friday's Recruiting article it said that it was still up in the air between Michigan and Penn St. for VA 4* LB Ellis Brooks' last visit this weekend. According to Brandon Justice Brooks decided to take an official to Penn St. So I believe that leaves 7 guys left on the board:
5* DT Aubrey Solomon
5* DT Jay Tufule(slim hopes)
4* OLB Willie Gay
4* WR Nico Collins
4* WR Oliver Martin
3* OT Mekhi Becton
3* S Ifeatu Melifonwu

We're doomed, Harbaugh can't recruit.

James Franklin. And that's all I have to say about that.
January 24th, 2017 at 9:44 AM ^
Because we know we have Willie Gay locked up. right? RIGHT?

That candle I lit at church last night must have done the trick.
Unfortunately I'm not allowed to be within 500 ft of that church anymore, but it was totally worth it.

It doesn't really come out because we almost never bank scholarships for the next recruiting class. It's not a good recruiting strategy.
January 24th, 2017 at 11:53 AM ^
How many senior preferred walk ons will be getting a scholarship this season?
January 24th, 2017 at 12:37 PM ^
It depends on how much attrition we have in the spring and summer.

he meant banking for 2018 by not offering just anyone to fill out 2017

We probably land 2 on that list IMO. We also land 1 or 2 that are not on that list.
IF we land Solomon though, then i dont give a shit if we strike out on everyone else left.
January 24th, 2017 at 9:57 AM ^
2 would be somewhat disappointing. We seem to lead for Martin, probably 50/50 to get Collins, good shot at Ifeatu, have a shot at Becton and I can't even read Solomon but I'm saying there's a chance. Crazy things happen but I am expecting about 3 from that group.
January 24th, 2017 at 9:57 AM ^
Yeah we really need a big Nose Tackle type guy. The rest can be worked around.
January 24th, 2017 at 12:15 PM ^
Is this guy available if Aubrey Solomon enrolls elsewhere.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:23 AM ^
Solomon and keeping the 26 we have and I'm happy
adding a WR, DB and LB would be awesome too as well, but getting Solomon is the difference between a great calss and elite
January 24th, 2017 at 9:52 AM ^
Obviously means we got Gay.
/oh god...

Michigan was backing off of him, anyway. That's the second time Michigan has backed off, and Notre Dame did, too.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:00 AM ^
Yeah, it seems we are pretty loaded with ILB types in this class already. Gay would be an amazing pull for the Viper spot though.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:13 AM ^
Gay has been #1 on my list for a long time. He's an instant-impact guy and the best LB we've offered in the 2017 class, IMO. It would be great if we could grab him.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:42 AM ^
But Magnus, you're not a professional and don't know anything about 'hip bend'.

I take it all back.

I died laughing reading that back and forth last night between you and 'His Dudeness". I don't know what you did to him, other than something you enjoy doing and making a little money at. That guy is on your jock super hard.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:54 AM ^
I don't know what I did to him, either. His problem is that people believe/trust me to some extent, which is weird because a) he can't explain where I'm wrong and b) if I'm leading people in the wrong direction, then they should be free to decide whether to follow or not.
Interestingly, the engineer (Brian) and whatever Ace and Seth and Adam did before this don't get the same questioning. Also not mentioned is the fact that a bunch of recruiting gurus (Josh Helmholdt, for example) don't have much on their resume other than writing for Rivals for a long time. It's not like Mike Farrell is a former NFL GM or Josh Helmholdt played QB at USC or Steve Lorenz is the step-son of Bill Belichick.

Bellichick hired Matt Patricia....who was a software engineer.
But I trust you Magnus.
January 24th, 2017 at 11:03 AM ^
I didn't know that about Matt Patricia. Interesting.
January 24th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
I just read an article about Belichick's hiring process for analysts. He hired one guy after meeting him at a horse race. Guy had played lacrosse in college and Bellichick was fascinated by lacrosse strategy.

I guess we showed our true colors to him too. You would think by now these recruits would know that its maize & blue.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:02 AM ^
Brooks is more of an inside guy it seems and we are loaded with those types of guys in this class already. Gay or bust for LBs left in the class.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:06 AM ^
or have we passed on him?
January 24th, 2017 at 10:16 AM ^
He put us in his top three, but the last I heard, academic issues were going to be a big hurdle for him to come to Michigan. He's better than Becton, IMO, so I wish we could take him somehow.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:27 AM ^
and Bateman's open to going the prep school route like Hawkins, maybe it's worth a shot even if we don't expect him to qualify. Better than passing on him and having him go to a Juco.
I suppose the worst outcome would be that he qualifies but doesn't get admitted. They should know if that's an issue.
January 24th, 2017 at 10:10 AM ^
While Ellis Burks was a fine outfielder for the Red Sox, he's 52 now and I'm not sure how his skills would transfer over to the college football realm.

Not to expect him. He will probably sign with Penn St, or anyone other than Michigan. He said he got another late offer that would be more appealing than Michigan, but the coaches didn't view it as a loss.
