OT - **Rumor** Pistons trading for Paul George
It is only a rumor at this point, but the deal that is being rumored is the Pistons would trade Stanley Johnson, KCP, Tobias Harris, 1st round pick 2017, 2nd round pick 2018, and 1st round pick for 2019. In return, the Pistons would get Paul George and Monta Ellis.

2 recent 1st round picks and two future 1st round picks plus Harris (2011 1st round to Charlotte) and a 2nd rounder would definately be overpaying for two players.
Basically getting rid of past/future attemps of building. The only sane way I see it is if SVG thinks that KCP and Stan have hit their ceilings. idk seems way too early to tell though. if it happens I wont like it but I wont hate it.

I understand exactly where youre coming from and thats why I wouldn't hate if it happened. Paul George is a great player but the trade would be putting your eggs in one basket. If it doesn't work out then it could potentially take a while to recover. Makes me nervous. He could be the difference maker this team needs. Pacers are just asking for a lot.

Yeah... take out the picks and I'm in though.

...and we're out.

Then peace out dog.

That seems massively uneven. Can't see SVG reacting well to Ellis jacking shots and refusing to play any semblance of defense.
December 9th, 2016 at 1:40 PM ^
Unless that trade wins championships within 5 years, fuck no.
December 9th, 2016 at 2:29 PM ^
...the Pistons aren't winning anything in the next five years. So nothing really matters.
December 9th, 2016 at 3:06 PM ^
As long as Kobe and Shaq are together, the Pistons aren't winning anything.

...four teams have won a title without (at least) one of the following: MJ, Hakeem, TD, Shaq, Kobe, LeBron.
2004 Pistons - total outlier
2006 Heat - D-Wade, one of the 15-ish best players in NBA history
2008 Celtics - KG, one of the 25-ish best players in NBA history
2015 Warriors - one of the most efficient teams in NBA history
But, yeah, what you said.
December 9th, 2016 at 3:38 PM ^
...and Shaq was on the 2006 Heat. So cross them off the list.

You forgot the 2011 Mavricks.

...were in the bag 100% for the 2006 Heat. They jobbed the Pistons so hard when they played the Heat it was sickening.

LeBron will be a shell of himself in three years, forget five.

too heavy a price in terms of draft picks
plus still need a reliable 4 and I don't see how Monae ellis really helps the pistons out at all
December 9th, 2016 at 1:45 PM ^
mid round first round NBA draft picks are not worth very much due to the massive miss rate. I think the overpay is in the young talent
December 9th, 2016 at 2:17 PM ^
KCP is in an interesting spot contract-wise and seems to be expecting $20 million yearly moving forward. Harris is due over $30 million in 17-18 and 18-19. Stanley Johnson may yet develop into a quality player, but is raw and doesn't exactly have star potential (especially offensively).
In place of that would be a top 10 player in the world right now for about $20 million per year through at least 2019. I understand not wanting to risk all those picks along with the young players, but Paul George is worth far more than that trio of players.

I'll pass on that deal

I was literally just coming to post this.
You know what, go for it. This team is so lifeless. Paul George is about as close to a superstar that Detroit will ever get.

Harris is solid, and those picks will be late half of the round with PG on the team.
December 9th, 2016 at 2:22 PM ^
an understatement for the way Stanley has played this year. Plus it's basically said (if you read between the lines when SVG talks about him) that his work ethic has gone in the tank this year.
December 9th, 2016 at 1:44 PM ^
Love the idea in concept but think that's an overpay. Three picks, two of them first round? All of KCP, Harris and Johnson? Keep one of those three players (my vote is KCP) and ideally one of the picks.

No thanks

As a Pacers fan there isn't a chance in the world I would do this. You can have Larry Bird and Nate McMillan for a bag of fritos though
December 9th, 2016 at 2:17 PM ^
They don't sell them here anymore :(

I was a Chile Con Queso guy myself. Also discontinued in favor of the "FLAMING HOT" Frito Lay sub-brand, IIRC.

I miss Corliss Williamson so much. Big Nasty.
December 9th, 2016 at 2:24 PM ^
Ish Smith, Darrun Hilliard, Jon Leuer, Aron Baynes if you're rotating 9. Udrih, Ellenson and Marjanovic round out the bench. Reggie Bullock comes back in 5 weeks to possibly take Hilliard's place. That's a decent bench unit. Plus, Baynes is expiring and you have Marjanovic to replace him, so Baynes can be shopped.

Love Paul George but the rest of that deal kinda sucks.
December 9th, 2016 at 1:46 PM ^
Was Boy George. But you may be right.
December 9th, 2016 at 1:47 PM ^
Extremely disappointed with Stanley Johnson, but he's only 20. A bit early for anyone to call him a bust. This looks like an overypay to me. While KCP is on his last year and I really would not like to give him 20 mil a year, Harris is a really solid piece and we have him at an attractive salary for the next few years. Either way, this team is pretty fucking boring to watch. The NBA, in general, sucks.
December 9th, 2016 at 3:24 PM ^
is extremely high and KCP will get 20 million a year. KCP is better than a lot of SG getting a big contract. He is in the midst of a breakout year(finally) and is the Pistons best defender by far. I would pay KCP 20 million a year just to keep him.
