Some Black and Gold Friday morning MOJO.

If you'd been watching Michigan football as long as I have, you'd know that the Football Gods have a deep and abiding contempt for the Wolverines. They're assholes, those Football Gods—their biggest goal is fucking with us by leading us repeatedly to the gates of the Promised Land, and then when we reach for the handle, turning on the electricity.

Just posting to put the reverse wahmmy on.

The reality is the football gods are this:

Why does she keep inviting me to bed only to pull the covers closed?!? WHY!?!?!?!?!
December 2nd, 2016 at 2:59 PM ^
Because you're a Michigan fan, silly.
If you were an OSU fan, she'd be ripping your clothes off before you even got into the bedroom. And then she'd stuff a couple of fifties into your pocket afterward just as a reward for being an OSU fan.

I read this post and I recalled Michigan football in the last 10 years, suddenly I'm sad
December 2nd, 2016 at 11:21 AM ^
There's enough heartbreak to make you decide not to flip on the TV until next September.
We have been screwed by FG's not counting despite going over the uprights...98-yard Rose Bowl fields...winds dying down in time to lose on a FG at the gun...phantom clipping call in a different Rose Bowl...a blatant PI not getting called as a #1 team, at home, with only a few seconds on the clock...Rocket Left...Spartan Bob...
I don't know if it's a good thing or not, but at least the bad stuff over the past 10 years have mostly been self-inflicted (The Horror, RichRod, Hoke). It's kind of nice to get back to having hearts broken by outside influences.

The first kicker in recorded history to have kick declared no good because it was too HIGH over the goalposts.
And both of those refs that game in 74 were from Columbus too BTW......

Of all the multitudinous dong punches I've taken as a Michigan football fan—the list would take me two hours to properly catalog—nothing was worse than that day in 1974.

well, now you've done it, Don!

I can't image being old enough to have seen the entire Schembechler era. I'm only 40. Watching all of those teams almost win a national championship must have been hell.
December 2nd, 2016 at 12:31 PM ^
That truly wasn't the emphasis back then. It was Rose Bowl or bust, and at best you could only go every other year until the mid 70s. Losing the random game every year was the real frustrating thing. All-in-all, the Schembechler years were a lot of fun.

to this last week leading up to the game.
I'm sure other programs have been dong punched and mind fucked as often as us, but I can't think of one. Mainly because I really only pay attention to or remember our dong punches and mind fuckings.
December 2nd, 2016 at 4:22 PM ^
we have been screwed way too many times in the past. Seeing both of these teams play a fair amount this year, I expect Washington to win tonight. Our best hope is VaTech beats Clemson.

I really really hope I'm wrong but I don't think we get in no matter what happens this weekend.
But then again I always assume the worst so that my sadness isn't so bad if the worst happens...

If Washington loses, we're in. If Clemson loses, we're in. They want us in so badly. They just need a justifiable reason. Everyone around the country knows this. Just own it. They want Harbaugh, Saban, and Meyer to battle it out in the playoffs. It's a business no matter what anyone tells you.

I want to believe Maynard!!
December 2nd, 2016 at 11:11 AM ^
There is a part of me that hopes that if Washington wins whoever of psu/wisconsin jumps us in the final ranking so we know we never stood a chance.
December 2nd, 2016 at 11:18 AM ^
Wisconsin jumping us is believable. PSU winning and leaping into the playoff is insane.
December 2nd, 2016 at 12:00 PM ^
Why? PSU beat OSU and their losses were early in the year; they are playing much better now. Wisconsin lost to both UM and OSU and has been pretty consistent throughout the year. Further, PSU gets in only if they beat Wisconsin which would make them 2-1 against the best B1G teams, just like M.
December 2nd, 2016 at 12:24 PM ^
i guess I didn't realize the real football season started in Week 6. Isn't everyone telling me what makes college football great is that every game matters? Does losing by 39 to Michigan not matter all of a sudden?
December 2nd, 2016 at 1:27 PM ^
That argument goes to the question of who is playing better right now, you know, at the time when they are determining up matchups for the bowls. Every game does matter - Oklahoma wouldn't be out of consideration for the CFP if they hadn't lost 2 of their first 3 games. In the case before us the 2 teams discussed both have 2 losses so consideration of who is the "hotter" team right now seems relevant when comparing them before they play each other.

Has been kicked in the teeth, over and over, for a long time now. We need a break as Michigan fans, we need something good to go our way.
Whether it be the miracle from MSU, losing to OSU again and again, something good needs to break.
Colorado's our horse. I don't see Clemson losing to Virginia Tech.

I agree. I know we beat both Wisconsin and Penn State, but that was months ago now. I still bet the Buffs get in over us if they win and Clemson loses.
It's going to take some serious politcking on someone's behalf for us to be in the Playoff.
December 2nd, 2016 at 12:22 PM ^
No shot.
December 2nd, 2016 at 12:16 PM ^
I have a hard time seeing Colorado getting blown out by Washington. This isn't a situation where one has so much more talent than the other and Colorado has not been blown out by anyone except Michigan. USC, the one common opponent that is considered good this year, beat Colorado by 4 and Washington by 13. Washington was home, and Colorado was on the road. I get that Washington is good, but I think people are starting to base things on hype with this one. If Washington wins and it's a big if, it will most likely be around the spread. It has hovered around a touchdown all week. My personal opinion is that Colorado is probably the better team overall but that Washington has the best QB. It's going to be close and don't be surprised if Colorado sends us to the playoff.
December 2nd, 2016 at 1:07 PM ^
Been saying this all week... And listening to what (and how) Kirby Holcutt say what he said, Michigan is in if Washington or Clemson lose. The only way a CG winner jumps us is if that team wins in a fucking HUGE way. And I don't think any of the four are good enough to do that...
December 2nd, 2016 at 10:56 AM ^
Then we POUND the Buckeyes by two scores in the National Championship game.
Bo smiles down and rests easy.
