Doom and Gloomers, Don't rush to judge O'korn
I know we all want Speight to to play as he gives us the best shot of winning in C-bus next week, but stop burying O'korn based on that game. The weather was absolute shit in just his first start ant it's not as if Barret was lighting it up in similar conditions in East Lansing.
Of course Barret is a much bigger threat to run, but he is also a 3rd year starter that looked very average yesterday against a mediocre team. Sure, we're not sending Joe Montana or Tom Brady out there next week, but neither are they.
If we win the battle on both lines of scrimmage we will win the game. Not much separating these two stat lines from this past weekend for the two teams.

I'd be curious to hear what Brian and the Mods have to say about the injury now. I'm not gonna call them liars or get upset about it, but the whole "Speight broke his collarbone" story seems to have been broken by them and their souce. TheWolverine refuted that, but acknowledged he was injured. Harabugh refuted the break, but he's the coach and we can't really trust him to give us anything other than misdirection. Hell - even Speight throwing on Saturday doesn't mean he's anywhere near OK. I could easily see him going out for some soft toss just to give OSU something else to think about this week.
So my question is - will MGoBlog double down on their original report (Collarbone break, season over) or is it not as bad as originally feared?

apologized for the report on twitter. News organizations are wrong sometimes. MGoBlog just got it wrong this time. I wouldn't look too hard into it.

Chad Henne played injured a few times. If there isn't long term damage caused by playing, he'll play seeing as this is the game and we don't have a game after this week if we don't win.

Mallett should have played the whole game; Henne couldn't function.

"Can't play an injured kid."
So how do you explain Devin Gardner's entire senior year? Or playing the entire second half against Ohio State with a broken foot?
November 20th, 2016 at 6:55 PM ^
Brady Hoke and he wasn't a Qb whisperer.
Harbaugh can make JOK good enough to win, hopefully.
November 21st, 2016 at 12:16 AM ^
and couldn't even get John O'Korn good enough to start. Jim Harbaugh is still a QB whisperer, but I don't think there is going to be anything he can do this week that he hasn't tried for a year and a half.

But he had Speight for just as long as O'Korn, and he was good enough to start...

I can tell you that you can make that throw with a broken collarbone on your non throwing shoulder. Also, the hit that made him start hurting was the exact same way I broke my collar bone the first time and I finished that football game as well. It's not a very painful injury. Just very limiting because you are in a sling 2-4 weeks

But he very well may be in a clavicle harness.
November 20th, 2016 at 11:50 PM ^
broke his collar bone he would be out the very next play. The pain is so severe he would not be able to attempt a throw. Yes, it was a shoulder injury but not a broken collar bone. I would say he is 50/50 starting at OSU.

If Harbaugh were the player, Harbaugh would play. If the danger is pain, then that is acceptable. If the danger is a long-term injury, then maybe he wouldn't play. But Bo and Harbaugh are the type of coaches that understand playing through pain is part of the ball game.
I say he will play. And play well. And win.
November 20th, 2016 at 6:58 PM ^
Every player on the field is one hit, one rolled knee, one torn Achilles, one concussion, one broken leg from a season ending injury. If he can stand in and make the throws, he plays. Harbaugh will only hold him out for two reasons:
1. The team doctors don't clear him (which they did for Indiana)
2. Harbaugh feels the injury makes Speight less accurate and O'Korn the better pick.
He does not have a broken collarbone. AC ligament strain is most likely. A simple pregame Marcaine injection to the site and he'd be good for ~6 hours without pain.

No offense WD and all. But paint me a doom and gloomer. I'm going with (umbig11) his word because he has been spot on especially with your guess is as good as mine predictions. Damn, (don't get your hopes up?) Those are some "Negative Waves Moriarty". We are going to need us sum lights out Defense, and I'm talking the likes of which we have never seen before.
F@%# its just not right, they run their QB to the tune of (guess) ten carries a game. Our QB 6'6" 245 lbs. who might have ten carries this season is injured and their (another guess) 6'1 220 lbs. is fine and ready to put on a show. Why do the Football Gods treat us this way?

I heard it through the grapevine! Wilton practiced with the 2nd team last Thursday and Friday. I expect both Wilton and John to get first team reps this weak in practice leading up to The Game! My gut tells me that O'Korn may start but if he struggles, Wilton will come in.

Weather can affect play but O'Korn's problems weren't a result of the weather. Weather does not affect pocket awareness, which was a serious weakness. It doesn't affect reads. It can affect the hands and the precision of passes, which may have been an issue on some of the long passes that were near misses, but it doesn't make him totally miss receivers either.
It's not judging O'Korn to say that if he starts the team is severely handicapped. It is simply a true statement. Pretty much every participant on this board would be even worse, but that is not a reflection on us.

I was at the game, the weather wasn't that bad. People need to stop making excuses and just call a spade a spade. O'Korn was not good yesterday.
