Crazy, was just watching the news and heard it as it broke. I don't think any major outlets are confirming it yet. TMZ is the only one confirming from what I've seen. Sad day for sure. One of the truly great musicians.
David Bowie and Prince within a span of a few months. Absolutely unreal.
RIP Prince
But holy crap, that picture's simultaneously awful and hilarious.
It's actually a t-shirt I guess. Not sure how I ever even found this (thought I saw it on here once but maybe not) but it makes me laugh everytime. So I figured I'd share it on this sad day.
and Keith Emerson, Glenn Frey, Natalie Cole, Maurice White, and Lemmy. Also George Martin, the all-time greatest producer. Music legends are dropping like flies this year.
The funeral for Phife was one of the coolest things I have seen. A true celebration. KRS-One with the off the top of the dome flow. That guy could still destroy every rapper in the game now. Positive early 90's hip hop like BDP, Tribe, De La, Gangstarr is just great stuff to listen to.
FUCK!!! He was so supremely talented. Was fortunate enough to see him twice. One show was the greatest I ever saw, the other was the worst. He didn't want the lights on when he played. Some people actually left. Sad. Too soon.
I spent some time at Lake Minnetonka while growing up. You can bet I'll take a commemorative dip when I'm back in Minneapolis this summer.
Whenever I think of Lake Minnetonka now, two things come to mind: 1. Dave Chapelle; 2. Appalonia's fantastic boobs...
I have Chappelle show to thank for introducing me to Prince. I never knew how good of a musician he was until I saw that skit when I was in HS.

This is a surprise. He was only 57. Reports are that the has had some sort of flu lately and had to cancel a show. Obviosly he was a legendary musical talent and performer who is gone way too soon.
2016 has been the death year for many musical greats so far. Tough year.
David Bowie, Phife Dog and Prince. Sad stuff to see.
is not like the others.
But in any case, sad to see him and anyone go too soon
Which one is the anomaly--Phife Dawg I'm guessing? He was not a musician of Bowie and Prince's caliber I suppose, but A Tribe Called Quest is widely considered one of the great hip-hop acts since, well, ever. Maybe that was more Q-Tip than Phife, but for people of a certain age who are hip-hop fans the loss of a member of ATCQ is pretty devastating.
Thank you!!
Sorry, but I would replace Phife Dog with Glenn Frey in that list.
Also, Lemmy.
Why can't we just include all of them in the list. I personally didn't care for a majority of Bowie's or Prince's catalogue, but they definitely had great songs and their contributions to music are inarguable. I own every Tribe LP and loved the positive vibes that Tribe represented. Glen Fry Lemmy and Merle Haggard also. Didn't care fortheir music, but nontheless, it's sad to see them go.
But that does not mean I am not sad that they passed. They were humans who brought joy to humans. That warrants respect.
Phife bummed me out a few weeks ago. And now this. Sucks.
late career, not my favorite, but it was a good show. RIP to him, making me feel real old.

I love that he used a pic of Chappelle dressed as Prince for one of his own covers. Epic genius

Also being confirmed by Daily News. Terribly sad - loved his music.
Crap. 2016 has been unbelievably brutal so far in terms of notable musicians dying WAY TOO young.
He just played a gig in Toronto a few weeks ago and my wife and I were joking that it was actually worth it to pay $800 each for orchestra pit tickets (the only ones available.) We didn't go, but man, we should have. Prince isn't that old.
Damn right! 57 is the prime (says someone who's turning that this year).
Got turned on to Prince by a roommate (who played him all hours of the night) in 1982. Really opened my musical outlook. Saw him when he opened for the Stones at the LA Coliseum where he got booed off the stage, even though he delivered more energy in 30 minutes than the Stones did in 2 hours (and that is from a Stones fan).
This is why I see my favorites every chance I get (David Gilmour two weeks ago, Bruce twice already this year). Damn!

Actually...from the comments made during the booing, it was actually more due to the fact that he was rocking while black.
Wow. That's a shocker. The year of celebrity carnage continues.
Weird dude. RIP with that raspberry beret.

RIP, good sir.
I hope you are serving pancakes aplenty in the great beyond.

Who managed to stop yammering about stocks to spend a long time on him. I saw him at Crisler with the Time and Vanity 6.
1999 tour. That was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Truly incredible show beginning to end. RIP Prince
