I believe Peter King had it first. Schefty late as always. Huge trade.

I wonder if they go for Wentz or for the home state kid in Goff.

is going #1 overall?
April 14th, 2016 at 10:03 AM ^
Seems like a big gamble. Let the conspiracy theorists rage on about LA getting the #1 pick in the draft.
April 14th, 2016 at 10:18 AM ^
Sure, it's a nice story, but this is almost being universally criticized as a stupid move by LA. They traded the whole farm for a single pick and I don't think anyone is going to suggest Wentz is a slam dunk.
It's extra-funny because the Lambs were the beneficiaries of the nearly-identical, and nearly-identically-stupid, RGIII trade. They should know how these things can turn out.
I remember reading an analysis of the relative value of the picks Washington gave away to get RGIII that basically said he'd have to have Tom Brady's career for them to have gotten a good deal. That might be a bit of a stretch -- one Super Bowl with him at the helm would have justified everything, IMO -- but still. It's monumentally stupid to give up so many picks for one guy who could be Ryan Leaf.

But at least we've seen Cook in pressure situations. You know what you'll get from him. As a Lions fan, I'm good with another NFC blowing their future with a risky trade like this.
Titans, if they draft well this year, will be tough. They have six of the first 76 draft picks.
April 14th, 2016 at 11:11 AM ^
Say what you will about level of play, but Wentz won two straight National Titles and was the Championship game MVP both times. He has some experience in pressure situations.
April 14th, 2016 at 11:37 AM ^
Still too soon.
April 14th, 2016 at 12:21 PM ^
Tebow won championships too lol
April 14th, 2016 at 12:37 PM ^
I didnt say whether I thought he would be a great pro or not. Just that saying that Wentz hasnt dealt with pressure situations isnt entirely accurate.
You're right. Tebow was a winner and didnt do well in the NFL. But that has no bearing on Wentz. And no one was talking about Tebow being #1 overall. Or first round even until the Broncos surprised everyone. Either way, Tebow has nothing to do with my original point.
Absolutely cannot take that away from him, however, he has neither played with or against any guys who are gonna be playing in the NFL. Goff, Cook and Lynch can all claim they have. Dominating inferior competition doesn't mean much. Soooo yeah, the level of play wasn't as good as D1 and it could be a factor in how he progresses as an NFL QB.
That said, on the flip side you have a guy like Joe Flacco who didn't win multiple titles at the FCS level and while I wouldn't consider him elite, he's done well for himself.
went undefeated against FBS teams in the last 5 years. They showed that they can play with the FBS competition. They have quite a few prospects on the team. Wentz is one and other is the OT Joe Haeg.

Most years, there isn't a "surefire superstar" at #1. Unless there is someone who is a certain franchise player with the #1 pick, it seems like the best move to make with the #1 is to put word out that it is available and wait to see who is willing to make the most stupid offer.
It certainly worked this year.
April 14th, 2016 at 10:51 AM ^
They tried so hard under Millen to say they wanted to keep the #1 pick in hopes of driving up the asking price. All they heard was dial-tone.

As a Browns fan I really hope they trade down or draft a non-QB at 2. If they do whatever they do and wind up drafting one of Tunsil, Bosa, Treadwell or Ramsey I'll be cool with it.
April 14th, 2016 at 11:26 AM ^
Wentz gets one good exhibition game against seniors and he's crowned the #1 pick?
Jesus.
April 14th, 2016 at 12:14 PM ^
People have had their eye on Wentz all season. I remember on one of the NDSU gamedays that they were saying Wentz was almost a sure-fire first rounder at that time
April 14th, 2016 at 10:01 AM ^
Moved up to get Hackenberg, surely.
April 14th, 2016 at 10:22 AM ^
No way. They've got Cardale "12 gauge" Jones fever.
April 14th, 2016 at 11:12 AM ^
Hahaha! In all seriousness however, Paxton Lynch should be the first QB off the board.

Rams are pretty young on both sides of the OL, and have two really young OTs. They could afford to move Robinson inside to OG, but I don't they go with Tunsil here. New face at QB for a new city, and at least they've done the work to put the talent around him before inserting him onto the field (great RB, solid, young OTs, and some WR talent with Austin). Haven't seen what they're giving up, but if they like Wentz, it makes sense to move up to grab him.
As for the Titans, this seems like a solid move. This draft is fairly deep on both OL and DL. They can get some solid guys with these picks this year to help solidify a solid foundation, and use the picks next year to further that. I never really like giving up this much for essentially one pick, but I can make sense of it I guess from the Rams standpoint, especially with what their needs are.

They have a lot of picks to use if they so desire.
Tunsil is the only sure fire top OT in the draft. Every teams have him at #1. NFL aren't as high on Stanley as the media/fans think they are. They questioned his ability to anchor against power rusher and his passion for the game. He's going much lower than most think he would go (think outside of top 15).

This is not a rumor at all here in Cleveland. The Browns like Wentz and really have zero interest in Goff.
April 14th, 2016 at 11:44 AM ^
Nobody knows who or what the Browns like right now. There has been as much talk about Goff as Wentz from the NFL Insiders as well as Grossi & Mary Kay Cabbot. And for all the QB talk there is just as much discussion about picking best available athlete or trading down. False flags everywhere.
The best news for us Browns fans is that this trade happened now. As somebody on Twitter said this morning "It's like your neighbor's house just sold for 100K over the asking price and yours is the only other house for sale on the street."
April 14th, 2016 at 11:23 AM ^
Haven't heard that rumor.
The Browns will squander the pick, whomever they choose.
I've been a Browns fan long enough to know that.

Glad I'm not a Rams fan. Titans may actually be good the next couple of years.
April 14th, 2016 at 10:07 AM ^
They just lost Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson might leave after next season. Ramsey would be an upgrade.
Wentz or Goff?
Tunsil?
Laquon Treadwell? (lol)

I am not sure this will be a splash type of draft. If they go qb, neither has the can't miss label of Elway, Mr. Nationwide, or Luck. LA will repent this.
April 14th, 2016 at 10:15 AM ^
That's a lot to give up for a potential franchise QB, but they have a pretty solid team and It's currently the biggest hole on their roster. Case Keenum wasn't the answer. This stategy didn't work so well for the Redskins, but they did manage to make the playoffs a couple times despite their lack of top draft picks.

It absolutely would have if Shanahan wasn't his coach. He went from a great QB to a broken shell of a QB due exclusively to his handeling of his injuries.
April 14th, 2016 at 10:38 AM ^
More to it than that. Shannahan never liked him some RG III, but Dan Snyder was flat out in love with him. So Shanny ran that horse hard, ran him right into the ground to spite-please the owner. Terrible misuse of the player, terrible.
That said, I don't think RG III's shelf life was going to be much longer than Vick's or Jeff George's, anyway. Mobile QB's work in the NFL when they're scrambling, not necessarily on designed running plays - they just get killed.
April 14th, 2016 at 10:59 AM ^
Ever since he owned the Redskins, he's preferred to spend money on aging FA's, instead of piling up draft picks and building through the draft. It was only natural when he got RGIII, that he would ride him hard like he would one of those expensive, going-up-the-hill veterans.
As much as I'm lukewarm towards Cam Newton, he will last longer in the league because outside of a few designed runs, he thinks pass first. Sometimes to the point of annoyance because you know he could easily pick up a few yards on the ground as opposed to throwing an incomplete pass.
April 14th, 2016 at 10:17 AM ^
what are the titans getting?
April 14th, 2016 at 10:19 AM ^
I believe two 1st round picks, two 2nds, and two 3rds. LA gets the #1 overall, a 4th and a 6th. That is a huge trade and gamble by the Rams. They'd better hope whoever they take at #1 is a career star for them
