Cannot wait for Brandon Peters
Seeing what great QB play looks like now that the "real" Rudock has appeared, it makes me giddy to imagine the potential of the next 3-4 years with Brandon Peters as our QB -- combined with Harbaugh.
Dude is a stud.

The thread on Peters with senior highlights is still on the front page.
Having said that, I can wait for Peters. I really hope that O'Korn is as promised. Or that Morris shocks us and starts the next two years. Either way, having someone who has worked under Harbaugh through the season, with the camps and the regular practices, is going to be so far ahead. Assuming O'Korn (or Morris) have full use of the playbook, and that Harbaugh has fully assessed them, either would be better than Peters. Far better for Peters to redshirt, learn the playbook, run the scout team, and get fully up to speed. This will allow him to complete in both the Spring and Summer practices in 2017, substitute in for the starter, take over in case of injury, and even possibly surpass the starter and be the number one in Fall 2017. That's a long time away.

Peters is an EE so he will get both spring and fall 2016

He's not starting as a freshman next year.
November 16th, 2015 at 8:29 AM ^
Just curious -- how do you know that for sure?
November 16th, 2015 at 8:35 AM ^
but with the number of QBs on the roster, and the reports from pactice I'd say our depth chart looks roughly like this:
1. Morris
2. O'Korn
3. Speight/Malzone/Peters
November 16th, 2015 at 8:37 AM ^
I'll be shocked if Morris is the starter next year.
November 16th, 2015 at 11:20 AM ^
TBH. I'd be shocked if Morris is still on the roster next year. Has "transfer" written all over him.
November 16th, 2015 at 11:48 AM ^
Those schools regularly get guys on NFL practice squads. Might be a chance for him to play right away where the pressure is lessened and get some exposure to NFL scouts. I doubt that it's good for him to transfer somewhere that he has to sit out another season without playing a meaningful snap.
November 16th, 2015 at 11:51 AM ^
If he was going to transfer, he would have done it already so he could play next year. At this point, he's set up for the grad transfer route if he wants, but he'll be around next year.

If/when he graduates in the Spring he will be able to transfer and play for 2 years wherever he goes. See Jacob Coker at Alabama for reference. He didn't start because Sims beat him out but he was eligible. It would be the same case for Morris wherever he ends up.
I honestly hope he ends up somewhere in the midwest so I can more closely follow how he does.
November 16th, 2015 at 8:38 AM ^
If you've read something from anywhere that leads you to believe Morris will start over O'Korn, I would really like to see it. If I had to guess, I'd say Morris never takes another snap here at UM. Ever.

he is as good as gone

That Morris resigns himself to permanent backup status or transfers.

Not that my opinion is worth a damn, but if I had to guess for next year:
1. O'Korn
2. Speight
3. Peters (though I could see Peters passing Speight)
4. Gentry/Malzone
Morris transfers away. (Again, that's a guess, not based on any actual knowledge)

do you really think Peters has a chance to beat out an older, experienced QB with 1 1/2 years as a starter at a Div. 1 program AND who will have been here over a year running the scout team and learning the offense? I hope Peters IS that good, but let's put things in perspective.
November 16th, 2015 at 8:48 AM ^
Freshman QB's, no matter how good, are rarely the best option. He needs a year to learn the system.
My bet is O'Korn as starter, Speight as back-up, and more than one transfer (including Shane).
November 16th, 2015 at 11:01 AM ^
Chad Henne begs to differ.
Edit: Just saw your "rarely" portion of your post. Agree.
November 16th, 2015 at 11:10 AM ^
Also, Henne was, according to the coaches, not the best option his freshman year. But the projected starter was injured so Henne stepped in and ran with the opportunity.
November 16th, 2015 at 11:25 AM ^
I'm aware of that, thanks
November 16th, 2015 at 11:55 AM ^
I think so many Michigan fans think this way because of the last ten years or so. Chad Henne started as a freshman, but I think few remember that he wouldn't have if Matt Guitierez didn't get hurt. Then after a disaster at QB in 2008 Tate came in and started as a freshman and did pretty well, but still had obvious freshman mistakes.
Bottom line the best QB will play.
November 16th, 2015 at 8:50 AM ^
...but we can agree that Harbaugh approached the QB situation as a "do over" when he got here. I don't think we can discount the possibility that Peters, if as advertised, could be the anointed one out of the gate.
Andrew Luck redshirted his first season, and then took over for the older, more established Pritchard. Maybe something like this?
November 16th, 2015 at 11:32 AM ^
The best High School QB tried to split time with a less known Junior QB, who had been around for a while. Everyone clamored for this amazing young prospect, yet the older QB continued to out perform and beat out the young QB.
In 2000, the High School stand out played one of the best single seasons (despite missing the beginning with a foot (toe?) injury).
Mathlete (I believe) did a whole statistical analysis of true freshman QBs and compared to the entire college football QBs. I think they at best came out average.
My point being, no matter how good a High School prospect is, the change from HS to college is a big one. Game moves faster, and offenses and defenses are both much more advanced. It could happen, but the stats tell us that Michigan's best chance to be great next year is with a veteran QB.
November 16th, 2015 at 8:53 AM ^
From the previous Peters post:
"He is going to be redshirted, that was part of the things we talked about, Coach Harbaugh said ‘Brandon, we’re going to redshirt you, and I want to make sure you’re OK with that because we are going to do this the right way. I redshirted Andrew Luck, I’m going to redshirt you and if you follow the process, good things will happen."

LOL, that'll play...
November 16th, 2015 at 10:58 AM ^
I think Peters has a very good chance of winning the job next year. If he doesn't, it will be because someone else is really, really good, so I will be happy either way. I think it will be between Peters and O'Korn.
November 16th, 2015 at 8:28 AM ^
Don't jinx it!
November 16th, 2015 at 8:29 AM ^
I'm excited for the QB position for the foreseeable future. I don't know how long it will be before Peters sees the field (I doubt it's this coming fall), but I'm excited to see what O'Korn can do and I'm still very pumped to see if Harbaugh can develop Gentry. Gentry has some crazy high potential.
November 16th, 2015 at 8:58 AM ^
I know there is a lot of speculation that Gentry may end up at a different position, but I for one was really impressed with his highlight clips. In Harbs I Trust, though.
