And I'm sure he would've picked Michigan to beat msu every year he coached, also. I wouldn't be surprised if Hoke picks Michigan to win every week, including ohio (state).

Solid pick, I'd call his vegas 976 number.

Me too. I'm glad Hoke isn't the head coach anymore (of course). But I will always like him for the way he loves Michigan. And I would be happy if he ever came back as a DL coach/recruiter.

And competed.
Why wouldn't he pick them to win?

had to face Sparty on the road three times. That does make a difference. Don't think so, than look at how close every game Lloyd's team had playing in EL. They were always close. And Michigan was lucky to pull them out.

He's on Sirius/XM College Sports talk radio a couple times per week with Mark Packer, and he's actually not that bad. I've certainly heard worse on talk radio.

I believe that qualifies as "damning with faint praise".

Say what you will about his coaching chops or his charm while speaking to reporters, but by all accounts he is a well-liked, personable guy. It wouldn't surprise me if he is personable or at least "not that bad" on the radio. Remember his players all loved him and he did recruit oddly well based on really nothing other than selling the Michigan brand (certainly wasn't results) and his own personality (plus some GMatt). Hoke's recruits are performing well currently at Michigan, WVU, Auburn and even in the NFL (Rawls). All under other coaches of course :)

I have heard him numerous times as well, and I agree that he is better than what I thought he would be, as Hoke and radio did not exactly seem like a dynamic combination to me.
Because he is a nice guy, which comes through, he ends up being likeable I believe. Many of his sentences are even grammatically correct now that he is not worried so much about saying things he should not be saying.
I drove across the country 3 times in the past 60 days to play in tennis tournaments. Once I listened to his whole show. By the end of the third hour, I was ready to drive into an embankment to end it all.
I hope he has a great life, because he deserves it, and I respect him as a person. But seriously, if you are relying on Hoke for football analysis, or for entertainment, you have serious issues.
He does seem a bit bitter, and a bit hurt, by his time at Michigan, but he needs time to heal like everyone else.

I wonder what Hoke thinks when he watches the team play right now. Do you think he thinks "if they had kept me this is I would've done too" or does he think "holy shit - that dude can coach - I could never get the team to do that".

I had that same thought the other day. He's got to feel that to some extent. At the same time you know he respects and knows he's not the same man Jim Harbaugh is. I mean who is?

However, there are major differences - a) RR was at least on an upward trajectory, while Hoke was on a downward, and b) RR has proved at 2 other P5 schools that he is a good coach, BH has not done that yet.

Rich Rod was on an "upward trajectory" because he started at 3-9. Hoke's 2013 team was not that much worse (if at all worse) than RR's 2010 team.
October 13th, 2015 at 11:29 PM ^
I wonder if people will be pissed off at Harbaugh's lack of an upward trajectory when we only win 11 games in 2019?
October 14th, 2015 at 7:07 AM ^
RR's last two games and then get back to me on the meaning of "upward."
