As a longtime fan, I certainly understand what you mean, but honestly, what is the difference between AP and ESPN rankings now? Neither is from the playoff committee, which is all that matters. I suppose one could say the AP or Coaches' Polls are in stories and graphics, but does that make them more official? They are still of little consequence.

This is not the AP or the Coaches poll, correct?

Hopefully Northwestern finishes 11-1 and Utah runs the table. This is a highly-contrived, dream scenario, but if we are 10-1 with wins over a 10-1 NW and 10-1 MSU and a loss to an 11-0 Utah team going in to playing an undefeated OSU...there will be people actually spontaneously combusting. ESPN would have more The Game coverage that week than for the 06 game. It would be a sure fire top 5 matchup/gameday/Harbaugh-fest....but I am putting several carts in front of a very young horse here.

If we somehow ran the table it wouldn't matter what Utah or Northwestern did - we'd be in the playoffs. Ohio and Sparty would both have at least one loss and wouldn't be taken ahead of us after we beat them head to head. Given that, I doubt there would be four other teams ranked above us.

Looking at the ranking, I see this much better than the AP and coaches poll. I still think MSU is a little high, given how bad Oregon looked. Overall, I think it is much better.

And name one SEC team that looks unbeatable..
Ole Miss looked weak against Vandy the patsy ...Alabama still hasn't found a QB yet. LSU is probably the best SEC team and they made Syracuse look good. Auburn is a joke as is Arkansas (lol at Bret) ..
Georgia?? They're always highly touted until the inevitable choke at some point.
Missouri? LOL ... Florida? Tennessee? Also rans....
BigTen top half looked very solid across the board yesterday

Agreed.
But not unbeatable, by a long shot.

a Utah team ranked higher than Alabama, and will face a No. 16 Northwestern in two weeks followed by the No. 3 Spartans and eventually the No. 1 Buckeyes. Well, BYU had been ranked.
Everyone says this team is looking for its identity. I already know what that is, and it couldn't be more Harbaughesque: Jackhammer. All this team does is bust up the competition at the point of attack and break your will. No worry about how it looks in the end. Just finish the job you started. Jackhammers, that's what these Wolverines are.

This is just like the polls--it matters as much what your preseason prognostications were, as it does how youve actually played. No way MSU and TCU should be higher than Utah or us at 23. We are playing like a top 15, if not too 10.
